Praise for Dr. Phil Aaron essay: TED

About: TED by Dr. Phil Aaron.

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

I just read Dr. Phil Aaron's comments about Senator Ted Kennedy and thought it was an informative piece about the senator. As a Kentuckian I am grateful for the 300+ bills he wrote to help children, the elderly, and other citizens who often do not have a voice. In addition the 2700 bills that he either co-sponsored or helped to be passed helped so many people in our state. I worry so much about Congress and the special interest groups that controll them today. In Senator Kennedys case, he didn't need money from special interest to keep getting electing. It is refreshing to see someone who has no financial cares or needs to be so passionate about giving back and helping others.

Julia Miller Horton loved flowers from earliest childhood

In later years, Dr. Horton planted roses outside her bedroom window so she could always see the roses. When they were in bloom, he would cut roses from the garden and set them beside her bed. Roses played a big part in a beautiful Columbia love story, still remembered in the legacy of the Julia Burns Horton Rose Garden at the Trabue House.

Julia Ann Pickett
Great niece and namesake of Julia Miller Horton

Julia Miller Horton was born May 28,1894, to the parents of Susan Russell Patteson and Dr. Samuel Preston Miller.

Her grandfather, Captain Oliver Patteson, served in the Civil War. It was he and his wife, Mary Belle Russell, who built the Miller home on top of Jamestown Hill.

'Green Bank' to finance energy-efficient improvements

More than $18.75 million in funding available through the federal stimulus program will be allocated to the Green Bank revolving loan fund.

From Gov. Beshear's Communications Office

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Gov. Steve Beshear has announced the establishment of a multi-million dollar financing program to make public buildings more energy efficient, a move that will reduce costs and potentially create "green collar" jobs.

The "Green Bank of Kentucky" program will allow state government energy-efficiency projects to compete for low-interest loans that can be paid back through the energy savings generated. Gov. Beshear made the announcement at the site of one of the first projects expected to submit a loan application to the Green Bank: Kentucky Educational Television's (KET) network center in Lexington.
