Chamber already has nine community yard sale locations

City wide yard sales for Labor Day expanded to County-wide; Adair Magistrates have secured nine locations already for big Labor Day weekend affair

Nine locations for set-ups have not been registered with the Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce for the County-wide Yard the Chamber is sponsoring Friday, September 4, Saturday, September 5, and Monday, Labor Day September 7, 2009. So far, at least one location is available in every district except District No. 5. To have your yard listed for mention in the media, contact the Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce, 201 Burkesville ST, Columbia, KY, phone (270) 384-6020. CJE Ann Melton had requested the maigistrates secure the locations at the August 11, 2009 meeting of Fiscal Court. So far, the response has been outstanding.

Lyda Holt, 90, Adair Co., KY (1919-2009)

Mrs. Holt was the head of a large, respected Adair County family. She leaves 54 living descendants. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene and was a homemaker

Lyda Holt, 90, of 1992 Montpelier Road, Columbia, KY, passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at 5:40amCT at the LakeCumberland Regional Medical Center in Somerset, KY after an illness.

The funeral service is Friday, August 21, 2009 at 10:00amCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Dean Roach the officiating clergy. Interment will be in Haven Hill Cemetery, 1276 Liberty RD, Columbia, KY. The family requests visiting after 4:00pmCT, Thursday, August 20, 2009.

Volunteers needed at Trabue House Thursday

Adair County Garden Club

Bright and early every Thursday morning you can find members of the Adair County Garden Club working at the Trabue House, 201 Jamestown Street, Columbia, KY, from 7:00am to 10:00amCT, volunteers tend the rose garden, tidy the yard and prepare beds for next spring's plantings.

This is a special Thursday and we need your help. Nearly 2,000 antique brick have been delivered to repair the walkways and to form a brick boarder around the beds in the rose garden. Volunteers are desperately needed in order to complete this project before the rededication of the garden in September.No experience is needed, just a willing spirit.

Obituary: Othel Rollin Jeffries, 92, Green Co., KY

Mr. Jeffries was a member of a respected Green Co. family and a lifelong farmer. He was a member of the Lighthouse Tabernacle Church in Knifley, KY and was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps started by Franklin Delano Roosevelt

Mr. Othel Rollin Jeffries, 92, Greensburg, KY, died Monday, April 17, 2009 in Greensburg, KY.

The funeral services for Mr. Othel Rollin Jeffries will be conducted at 12:00 noon CT, Thursday, August 20, 2009 at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home, 206 South Main Street, Greensburg, KY with burial to follow in the Campbellsville Memorial Gardens, 3878 Greensburg RD, Campbellsville, KY. Bro. William Warren will be officiating. Visitation is requested from 4:00pm to 9:00pmCT, Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home and after 7;00amCT, Thursday until time of the funeral service. Pallbearers are Todd Jeffries, Robbie Jeffries, Alan Jeffries, David Wood, Jr.; Keith Hanna, and James Thurman Jeffries.

Agenda, Adair Co. Board of Education, August 20, 2009 meeting

The Adair County Board of Education will have a 25-item agenda at its regular August 20, 2009 monthly meeting.

The agenda includes presentation of last year's attendance award, changes in the RTI intervention program staffing, consideration of a part-time technology assistant, bus and truck purchases, appointment of a committee to look at school reconfiguration, among other items.

The board will also discuss names to recommend to the Columbia City Council for two roads: The road to the FFA Agriculture complex, and the new road off the Columbia Western Bypass which passes the new football field.

FRANKFORT, KY (August 19, 2009) - Kentucky women continue to increase their numbers in elected office, although the Commonwealth still trails the rest of the country according to a report issued today by Secretary of State Trey Grayson. Today is the 89th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution which affirms a woman's right to vote. The report is an update of the 2005 and 2007 editions of Opening Doors of Opportunity: Empowering and Inspiring Kentucky Women to Public Service, following the 2008 election.

Head athletic trainer Derek Port has three full-time assistants and five student assistants working the five fall contact sports, along with a stand-by obligation for men's and women's golf.

Wet roads contribute to crash on Tennessee Ridge RD

TFC Greg Brown of KY State Police Post 15, Columbia, KY, is investigating a collision that occurred at approximately 7:24pmET, Tuesday, August 18, 2009, on Tennessee Ridge Road, 6 miles west of Liberty, KY.

Ronetta J. Monday, 19 years old, was southbound on Tennessee Ridge Road. Due to wet roads, Monday lost control of the vehicle and ran off the right shoulder of the road, and struck a tree. Monday was not wearing a seatbelt and was treated and released at Casey County Hospital, Liberty, KY.

LWC Women's Soccer No. 3 Spot in NAIA preseason poll

COLUMBIA, KY - The Lindsey Wilson College women's soccer team opens the season ranked No. 3 in the NAIA Women's Soccer Preseason Top-25 Poll, released by the NAIA, Tuesday, August 18, 2009.

The Blue Raiders received 552 points and one first-place vote from the panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences, independents and unaffiliated groups.

LWC Men's Soccer is Sixth in NAIA preseason coaches' poll

COLUMBIA, KY - For the second straight season, the Lindsey Wilson College men's soccer team is ranked No. 6 in the NAIA Men's Soccer Preseason Top-25 Poll, released by the NAIA today.

The Blue Raiders, ranked No. 1 in last season's final poll, received 482 points from the panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences, independents and unaffiliated groups.

ACHS Girls Golfers win at Marion Co. with low score of season

The Adair County Girls' Golf Team gets a nice win at Marion County's Rosewood Golf Course on Tuesday, August 18, 2009.

Adair County placed five out of six players in the 40's. "I'm not sure if we have ever done that before. The girls felt pretty good about how they played and should." Every team member shot their average or better. Adair shot a team score of 180 which is the best score posted so far this season.
