For the last several weeks, McAllister, who is LWC's director of residence life, has worked with his 29-member staff to ensure that Lindsey Wilson has a place to house every one of what is expected to be a record resident student population.

In 2008-09, LWC had a near-record 721 resident students. This fall, the college expects to crash the 800-student barrier for the first time in its 109-year history.

Nominates Norma Parnell work for Official Adair County Quilt

About: Norma Jean Parnell's wonderful quilt

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

It is very evident that much planning went into the Adair County theme for this quilt, before the actual construction phase began. It's a work of art! Let me be the first to nominate this historical work for the title of "Official Adair County Quilt." It would be nice if county government could arrange to display this quilt behind glass at the annex building where it could be viewed by everyone.

Chiuhuahua, possibly a pet, is lost on Conover LN, Columbia, KY

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

There is a little chihuahua running around on Conover Lane. It is light colored with just a bit of wirey hair mixed in. I don''t know if it is lost or someone dropped it off, but it is adorable. We can't get very close to it, so we don't know if it is male or female...but it is cute as can be. We have been setting out food and water for it, but it is still scared of us, and I don't know how long it will survive staying outside at night. If someone is looking for this little dog, they can call me to get the location. My cell number is (270) 250-5561.

Norma Jean Parnell's wonderful quilt

Click on headline for photo(s) plus full story

By Shamarie Claiborne

Aunt Norma Jean Parnell's handmade quilt was the sensation of our Hamlett Reunion in July 2009, held at my parents house in Columbia, KY.

The quilt depicts what seems like every aspect of Adair County life and history. We all wanted it, but, with over three months of labor and love invested in it, Aunt Norma Jean just smiles and says she keep it herself.

She's written a guide to the six rows of intricate panels and the centerpiece which explains what each is about, with descriptions on each from left:
