Jean Corbin, Adair County 911 Dispatcher recently attended a Cooper/Clayton Facilitator Training seminar and is now qualified to facilitate classes.

Jean, along with several of her co-workers, recently went through Cooper Clayton Smoking Cessation Classes offered by the Adair Co. Health Department and became non-smokers.

Jean went a step further and decided to become a facilitator in order to help others succeed in becoming non-smokers.

Information on an upcoming Cooper-Clayton class to be offered for Adair County employees will be coming soon from Judge Executive Ann Melton.

Lost Black Chow dog seen in area of A1 Auto Supply

There is a lost black chow dog behind and around A1 Auto Supply, Hudson ST, Columbia, KY this morning. The dog is very friendly. He/She has been chained up, because the dog is still dragging some of the chain with him/her. The dog has a broken back left leg. I don't know if this was before he/she broke loose or after. Other than that the dog seems very healthy. -Shannon

Obituary: Ernest Curry, 67, Adair County native

Mr. Curry was a member of a prominent Absher community of Adair County family. He was a successful businessman in Columbia for over 30 years as the owner of Ernest Curry Plumbing. Mr. Curry is remembered as one of a kind individual, whose skills in his craft and in business were matched by his wit, and his eccentric humor

Eight Deaths on KY roadways includes one in Post 15 area

Kentucky State Police Post 15, Columbia, KY, area had one death recorded, in Metcalfe County

FRANKFORT, KY - Preliminary statistics* indicate that eight people died in seven separate crashes on Kentucky roadways from Monday, August 3 through Sunday, August 9, 2009.

Three of the crashes involved motor vehicles and all of those victims were wearing seat belts. Single-fatality crashes occurred in Mason, Metcalfe and Washington counties.

CU Booster auction clears $11,672 to help athletics

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY - The Fifth Annual CU Booster Auction & Dinner raised about one-third of the organization's annual budget Thursday night, according to Chuck Vaughn, director of the Big Maroon Club.

"It looks like we're going to clear $11,672," Vaughn said. "That's about $300 less than last year, but still pretty good in a bad economy."

Jordan Gilland, Ally Goniea and Kristen Spear and will join McCool's first recruiting class in 2009-10.

Scuba event will let prospects try on gear, test the waters

The Adair County Dive Team will be sponsoring a Discover Scuba Diving session as a fund raiser. It will be held at the Columbia City Pool at the City Park, Adair County Fairgrounds, 413 Fairground ST, Columbia, KY on Thursday night, August 13, 2009, from 6:00pm to 8:00pmCT.

The class designed for people 13 years old and up. During the session the people that attend, for a fee of $10, will be able to put on scuba gear and see if they might want to move forward and get certified as a scuba diver, for sport or other reasons.

Glasgow Outer Loop construction contricts Louie B. Nunn PKWY

BOWLING GREEN, KY - KYTC crews have pushed traffic down to one lane in each direction on the Louie B. Nunn Parkway in preparation for bridge pier construction.

Both directions of the Nunn Parkway will be pushed down to one lane around the clock at mile marker 15-16 for the next 45 days. The lane closures are approximately 2,000 feet in length and will allow crews to begin work on the interchange for the Glasgow Outer Loop.

The third section of the outer loop was awarded to Hinkle Contracting in June for $13,730,000 and is tentatively scheduled for completion in the spring of 2011.

Motorists are advised to use caution and pay attention to signage while traveling through this work zone. The speed limit in this area has been reduced to 55 mph.

Green River Bats make 4 game sweep at Ft. Knox, KY

Zach Estes of Columbia helped lead the Green River Bats to a 4 game sweep to win the summer bash baseball tournament at Fort Knox this past weekend. The Bats:
  • Defeated Nelson Co. 8-0
  • Took a double header against the Louisville Rangers, 7-3 and 11-1
  • Then took on Bardstown Catholic in the final, defeating them 6-3.
Members of the team are Claton Russell, Austin Hash, Jordan Nicholas, Tyler Franklin, J.T. Holmes, Julian Pierce, Quintin Goodin, Austin Webster all of Campbellsville, KY; Robbie Spalding of Marion Co.; Grant Best of Russell Co.; and Zach Estes of Columbia. Coached by Glen Holmes of Campbellsville.

Coach Oliver will speak at Aug. 18, 2009 Chamber luncheon

This meeting is at the Columbia United Methodist Church

The Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce monthly meeting will be held Tuesday, August 18, 2009, beginning at 11:45amCT at the Columbia United Methodist Church. 202 Burkesville ST, Columbia, KY.

Campbellsville University has record summer enrollment

Campbellsville University enjoyed a record enrollment for 2009 summer school classes, according to an announcement from Dr. Michael V. Carter, president of CU.A total of 610 students attended classes during a number of terms this summer, which is an increase of 58 students over last year's total of 552.

Dave Walters, vice president for admissions and student services, said, "Campbellsville University discounts the summer school program to an amazingly low cost of $275 per credit hour." This is nearly one third the regular cost.
Dr. Frank Cheatham, vice president for academic affairs, said,"I believe students understand the great value they get by taking summer school classes."

Fall classes at Campbellsville University begin Monday, August 24, 2009.
