Epicurean Kentuckian Abroad: A Proper Reuben

2009-08-08 - Indianapolis - Photo by Pen.
Shapiro's Delicatessen on South Meridian in Indianapolis and on Rangeline Road in Carmel, IN, serves mammoth Reubens (10.95), with corned beef piled high on rye bread. Kentuckians generally eat the Kosher delicacy with Vernor's ginger ale (1.45). The restaurant stilll lives by Louis Shapiro's famous motto: "Cook good. Serve generouslly. Price Modestly. People will come. The prices, by Adair County standards, at first may seem a little high, but almost everyone is fooled by the portions. One sandwich is usually more than one person can eat, and usually enough for two.

City's Grate Life Mouse: There's precedent for economic salvation

Barbara Armitage recalls what happened when they put red shorts on a similar little fellow back where she grew up: Lots of tourists, including busloads of Canadian tourists, we presume, flocked to spend their money there
About: Downtown Columbia KY: It's a grate life

By Barbara Armitage

I do believe that Ed and Pen Waggener have solved our counties economic woes! Someone get that cute little mouse - he may make us all rich.

He's proof that all dreams begin small - it's believing in the dream that makes it grow.

Thanks to Doctors and Westlake Regional Hospital

WRH care even better than at Kosair. Cheryl Wall says

Thank you, Dr Prerost and John Partin, RN BSN:

I just wanted to send a thank you to Dr. Prerost and John Partin, RN.

I took my 5 month old baby into Westlake Regional Hospital emergency room for treatment. I must say that I was nervous going there at first because of her being an infant and they not a hospital especially equipped for infants.

Shamarie Claiborne picture reminder of clues in nature

Rambling commentary: Thinking outside the box; looking at nature; looking at what was and should be remember, recovered, and revived, and just a few of the people to listen to

By Ed Waggener

Billy Joe Fudge was intrigued by a Shamarie Claiborne scenic photo, Fog in The Holler. He writes, "Sharmarie's photo of a water-ladened spider web reminded me of a story I saw recently," and he sent a link to an ecology story he'd read, Turning Air Into Water

He adds, "Just proves to me that we often times find solutions to problems already exist, however we must have our eyes open and be able to think outside the so called box."

Picture of CJE, Scott Harris, has something new, every time

About: Photo Help for ACYF football may be on the way

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

I like the photo, Ed. Lots going on, but it's all interrelated. Everytime I look at it I see something new, yet there is a strong center of interest--The CJE and Scott Harris. The reflection takes it over the top, but it would be a good photo even without the reflection.

s/George Kolbenschlag

Thanks! -EW
