Sycamore Springs: How to have good luck from white horse About: White horse grazing on East KY 80 photo by Kristy Keene By Cindy Meyer Sycamore Springs, KY The picture of the white horse brings back memories.... MANY years ago when I was in grade school, one of my readers had a story about if you see a white horse grazing in the pasture, you are supposed to spit in your left palm, and hit your left palm with your right fist for good luck. My Mother took this to heart. Being an avid Bingo player, she left no opportunity for luck to slip by her, as on the way to the Bingo Hall every Thursday night. Street behind Bank of Columbia is Jefferson Alley About: Brave brave Jason By Vonnie Kolbenschlag I do believe that is Jefferson, not Madison Alley. There are no signs to designate it, so maybe it needs a sign. It's one of the alley names shown on the original town plat. Washington Alley no longer exists, but Adams, Jefferson, Monroe, and Madison still do. It's remarkable, I think, that the founders of Columbia chose names indicating they were aware of what was going on in Federal City, what the U.S. capital was known as in 1803. Cross streets were Main (now Jamestown and Greensburg) and Market ( Campbellsville and Burkesville.) Fortune and Guardian were original names, too, and I have often wondered why those names were chosen. There seems to me to be a meaning of some sort in their selection. 2009-07-28 04:18:32 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Local History
