KSP Post 15 investigating shootings in Marion Co., KY

Apparent murder/suicide may have grown out of cusody fight

LEBANON, KY -Kentucky State Police Troopers and Detectives are currently investigating an apparent murder/suicide that occurred at 2245 Danville Hwy in Marion County.

Post 15 dispatchers received a call from Lebanon Police Department about a possible shooting at 2:15 ET. today, Wednesday, July 15, 2009.

One injured in two vehicle crash on KY 70

CASEY CO., KY - Tpr. Bryan Shepard, is investigating a collision that occurred today, Wednesday, July 15, 2009, on KY Hwy 70, 10 miles west of Liberty at approximately 5:00 PM. Mark A Richie, 22 years of age of Mannsville, KY, was operating a 1997 Nissan eastbound on KY 70. Richie entered a curve, lost control of the vehicle and struck a 1998 Nissan, which was being operated by 54 year old Debbie Stafford, of Liberty, KY. Stafford was treated and released at Taylor County Hospital. Richie and a passenger in his vehicle, Michael Johnson, 22 years of age, of Elkhorn were not injured. All parties involved were belted.

Adair Co, KY's Reconciled Cash Balance up 40% in one year

The state of the county treasury cash postion showed improvement over the year ago figures, as far as the Reconciled Cash Budget is concerned.
  • Adair Co., KY Reconciled Cash balance June 30, 2009 - $1,162,846.52
  • Adair Co, KY Reconciled Cash balance June 30, 2008 - $828,426.01
  • - Increase in Adair County Reconciled Cash balance, all funds: $334,420.51

    - Percent increase=40.31%
The June 30, 2009, figure was presented to Adair Fiscal Court in last night's first of the 2009-2010 meetings. The year earlier figure is from Adair County Finance Officer Gale Cowan.

Diamond Dots traveling softball team state champions

The Diamond Dots traveling softball team won NSA Kentuckiana State Tournament 10U this weekend in Owensboro, Kentucky. The Dots were undefeated this weekend to win the state championship.

The playrs on the team are Paige Dabney, Shelbi Lemmon, Hannah Absher, Megan Roberts, Reagan Pollock, Whitney Turner, Brenna Wethington, Makayla Sabo, Brookyln Coomer, Allie Woodrum.

The Coaches are Jim Sabo, Mike "Sarge" Pollock, and John Wethington. The team statiistician is Mason Wethington.

Obituary, Shirley Jean Sullivan, 70, Greensburg, KY

Mrs. Sullivan was born a member of a respected North Adair County family. She was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Green Co, KY and was a long time employee of Don's Lumber & Hardware Co. and E.J. Milby Building Supploy firms in Greensburg, KY.

Mrs. Shirley Jean Sullivan of Greensburg, KY, daughter of the late Carl C. Hoosier and Nettie Victoria Elizabeth Davis Hoosier, was born on September 18, 1938 in Adair Co, KY, and departed this life on Sunday, July 12, 2009 at her home. She was 70 years, nine months and 24 days of age.

The funeral services for Mrs. Shirley Jean Sullivan, 70, will be conducted at 1:00pmCT, Thursday, July 16, 2009 at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home, 206 South Main Street, Greensburg, KY with burial to follow in the Bethlehem Cemetery, Temperance Road in Green County. Bro. Landon Hadley and Bro. Ivan Jones will be officiating.

Benefit auction, cookout for Donnie Ford, Aug. 15, 2009

Donnie Ford was diagnosed with lymphoma cancer and All benefits will go toward his medical bills and treatments. He has no medical insurance.

The Adair County Board of Education will have a long, 30-item agenda to deliberate Thursday, July 16, 2009. Among important topics the Board will consider are adding a nurse at John Adair Intermediate School, creating a pre-school position at Colonel Wm Casey, approving a pre-school superviser position, and consider attendance regulation waivers.

In addition, the Board will recognize the Adair County Middle School Academic team for its achievement.

The meeting is open to the public and attendance is encouraged.

Adair Fiscal Court report, July 14, 2009 regular meeting


County hires three men, Mitchell L. Rooks, James B. Walker, and Donnie B. Shirley, to augment overworked Adair County Road Department, help catch-up on mowing, so regular crew can attend to storm clean up, repairs. County receives $15,600 from State Transportation Cabinet to help with June 16, 2009 cleanup. Judge Melton thanks Transportation Cabinet Secretary Prather, Rural Highways Commissioner B.D. Wilson for special help. Doyle Lloyd new assessment board member. Andrea Burris hired as part time jailer. Stimulus workers have been big help, Judge Melton, Mr. Sinclair say. Speed limit on Burris Sneed road being lowered to NEV qualifying 35 mph.

In last night's Fiscal Court meeting, the Magistrates approved a recommendation by Adair County Judge Ann Melton to hire three new part time road employees to help the county handle the backlog of mowing caused by excellent spring rains.

The perfect growing season for grass and brush, coupled with floods and storms, have put the Adair County Road Department several weeks behind in mowing the 600 miles of roadside the county maintains.

Adair Extension service Rinse, Return Program July 20, 2009

Farmers can drop of rinsed pesticide containers for disposal

The Adair County Cooperative Extension Service will hold a Rinse and Return program on July 20, 2009 from 10:00amCT -12:00 noonCT. Farmers can take advantage of free disposal of empty pesticide containers (2.5 gallon jugs and smaller). Containers must be rinsed out prior to drop-off. The Kentucky Department of Agriculture will collect the containers for recycling.

Adair County Schools begin August 5 for 2009-10 year

The Adair County School System has announced that students in grades 1-12 will begin school Wednesday, August 5, 2009. The first day for all kindergarten students is Thursday, August 6 and the beginning date for preschool will be August 17. Students who have not been enrolled in an Adair County school prior to this year or new preschool or kindergarten students who did not pre-enroll during the early registration process should fill out enrollment papers at the Adair County Board of Education located at 1204 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY. Do not go directly to the schools to enroll students who will be attending preschool through grade five if they are a new student.

The Columbia City Swimming Pool will be offering swimming lessons during the week of July 13 to July 17, 2008, from 5:30pmCT to 6:30pmCT nightly. The cost for the lessons will be $40.00 for the week or $10.00 a day if you pay daily. The To sign up for swimming lessons please call Columbia City Hall at (270) 384-2501 since the pool is closed this week due to the County Fair taking place this week.
