One injured in two vehicle crash on KY 70 By Tpr. Wm. Gregory, Public Affairs OfficerKentucky State Police Post 15, Columbia, KY CASEY CO., KY - Tpr. Bryan Shepard, is investigating a collision that occurred today, Wednesday, July 15, 2009, on KY Hwy 70, 10 miles west of Liberty at approximately 5:00 PM. Mark A Richie, 22 years of age of Mannsville, KY, was operating a 1997 Nissan eastbound on KY 70. Richie entered a curve, lost control of the vehicle and struck a 1998 Nissan, which was being operated by 54 year old Debbie Stafford, of Liberty, KY. Stafford was treated and released at Taylor County Hospital. Richie and a passenger in his vehicle, Michael Johnson, 22 years of age, of Elkhorn were not injured. All parties involved were belted. Mrs. Shirley Jean Sullivan of Greensburg, KY, daughter of the late Carl C. Hoosier and Nettie Victoria Elizabeth Davis Hoosier, was born on September 18, 1938 in Adair Co, KY, and departed this life on Sunday, July 12, 2009 at her home. She was 70 years, nine months and 24 days of age. The funeral services for Mrs. Shirley Jean Sullivan, 70, will be conducted at 1:00pmCT, Thursday, July 16, 2009 at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home, 206 South Main Street, Greensburg, KY with burial to follow in the Bethlehem Cemetery, Temperance Road in Green County. Shirley, to augment overworked Adair County Road Department, help catch-up on mowing, so regular crew can attend to storm clean up, repairs. County receives $15,600 from State Transportation Cabinet to help with June 16, 2009 cleanup. Judge Melton thanks Transportation Cabinet Secretary Prather, Rural Highways Commissioner B.D. Wilson for special help. Doyle Lloyd new assessment board member. Andrea Burris hired as part time jailer. Stimulus workers have been big help, Judge Melton, Mr. Sinclair say. Speed limit on Burris Sneed road being lowered to NEV qualifying 35 mph. By Ed Waggener In last night's Fiscal Court meeting, the Magistrates approved a recommendation by Adair County Judge Ann Melton to hire three new part time road employees to help the county handle the backlog of mowing caused by excellent spring rains. Extension Agent for Agriculture & Natural Resources The Adair County Cooperative Extension Service will hold a Rinse and Return program on July 20, 2009 from 10:00amCT -12:00 noonCT. Farmers can take advantage of free disposal of empty pesticide containers (2.5 gallon jugs and smaller). Containers must be rinsed out prior to drop-off. The Kentucky Department of Agriculture will collect the containers for recycling. School District, Columbia, KY The Adair County School System has announced that students in grades 1-12 will begin school Wednesday, August 5, 2009. The first day for all kindergarten students is Thursday, August 6 and the beginning date for preschool will be August 17. Students who have not been enrolled in an Adair County school prior to this year or new preschool or kindergarten students who did not pre-enroll during the early registration process should fill out enrollment papers at the Adair County Board of Education located at 1204 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY. Do not go directly to the schools to enroll students who will be attending preschool through grade five if they are a new student.
