(ADV) Mid-month Hardscratch Fish Fry benefits St. Jude's

Catfish worth the wait at Hardscratch General Store, 7289 Hwy 55 South Road, Columbia, KY in the Village of Glensfork, KY. Phone (270) 384-4671

By Ken Hill

It's mid-month fish fry night in Hardscratch, and tonight will be special. We are donating $1 for each adult plate to St. Jude's Children's Hospital Charities. We encourage our customers to match our donation, and double the giving.

Our catfish plate includes 3-4 pieces of breaded catfish, coleslaw, hushpuppies, and your choice of fries or baked potato. Adult plate is $5.75. Children's fish plate is $3.75. Other kids meals are available, and are free with the purchase of an adult meal.

What makes our catfish good? We hand slice each piece from a whole fillet, and applies the batter and breading only seconds before it goes into the fryer. After cooking, the fish goes onto your plate within minutes. We never pre-batter, pre-cook, or stockpile our fish under heat lamps. Occasionally, this means you might wait a little while, but we think the taste is worth the wait. We also make our slaw fresh before each fish fry, and our fries and baked potatoes are always hot and fresh.

We also have a new shipment of Hardscratch Caps, including the camo, which many guys had been requesting.

Come on out and join us for a good meal with friends and neighbors.

In desperate need of bedding for four year old son

Update Note to person needing bedding: At 8:24amCT, Friday, July 14, 2009, we received a call from a party with a twin size box springs and mattress for you. They asked that you send contact information so they can arrange for you to pick up

ColumbiaMagazine.com received this letter, and we hope posting it helps. The writer inadvertently omitted a phone number or other means of contact. We're posting it, because we believe it represents a situation that a small but significant number of Adair Countians find themselves in at this time. They are in a difficult transitional time in their lives and need a helping hand. And we'd like to hear suggestions on how this mother and others could be assisted.
    To ColumbiaMagazine.com
My husband and I are in desperate need of a twin size box springs and mattress for our 4 year old son to sleep on. We can not afford to buy one he was recently laid off. So if anyone has one to give away please contact us any help would be greatly appreciated. -Jean (no other contact information submitted)
For those desperately wanting to make a difference, this is their chance. Perhaps a government office, a church organization, a thrift store, a school organization or even an individual could serve as a public contact and/or clearing house for handling situations such as these. Perhaps such a clearing house already exists. If so, let us know using a Contact/Submit button, and, for now, send ColumbiaMagazine.com your offer of a twin size box springs and mattress for us to post in Free Cycling designated for this family. -CM
