Thieves take members' golf equipment at The Pines

Kentucky State Police Trooper Tracy Haynes is investigating the vandalism and thefts which took place at The Pines at Lindsey Wilson sometime overnight on Sunday June 28 and/or Monday, June 29, 2009.

"All we know is that the breakins happened during the night and that the vandals cut locks on the sheds and selectively took golf equipment," Pinewood Manager Mike Hamlett said.

Obituary: Gerald C. Burton, 62, formerly of Columbia, KY

Mr. Burton was a member of a large, respected Adair Co. family. He was a factory worker for US Industries in Cincinnati, OH, at the time of his death

Gerald C. Burton, age 62 years of Cincinnati, Ohio, formerly of Columbia, KY died suddenly Friday, June 26, 2009 in Cincinnati, Ohio from injuries received after being struck by a car.

The funeral service will be Saturday, July 4, 2009, at 1:00pmCT at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY with Bro. Ralph Foster officiating. Burial will be in Bearwallow Cemetery, 6080 Liberty RD, Columbia, KY. The family requests visiting after 12:00pmNoonCT, on Saturday, July 4, 2009, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.

Casey Logan Weddle awarded Elliott Family Trust Scholarship

Casey Logan Weddle of Liberty in Casey County was awarded a 2009 Elliott Family Trust Scholarship to attend Somerset Community College.

The Casey County Elliott family left an estate in trust to provide Somerset Community College scholarships to Casey County residents. Each year several students will be provided with full tuition scholarships through the Elliott family's generosity.

Weddle graduated from Casey County High School in 2009 with a 3.5 grade point average and ranked thirty-fourth in his graduating class of 135.

Weddle plans to major in the Radiography at SCC.

During high school Weddle was a member of the Pep Club, the Prom Committee, and the yearbook staff.

Weddle attends Hilltop Church of Christ in Liberty.

He is the son of Junior and Kendra Weddle of Liberty

Flag status at one-staff today for KY native who died in Iraq

FRANKFORT, KY - Gov. Steve Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 in honor of a Kentucky native soldier who died while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

According to the Department of Defense, First Sgt. John D. Blair, 38, of Calhoun, GA., died June 20, 2009 in Mado Zayi, Afghanistan of injuries sustained when a rocket propelled grenade struck his vehicle. He was assigned to A Company, 1st Battalion, 121st Infantry Regiment, Army National Guard, Lawrenceville, GA.

Kentucky's minimum wage rate increases today

Increase comes ahead of federally mandated hike; tipped employees' minimum wages will remain at $2.13 per hour

FRANKFORT, KY- Workers in Kentucky who are currently paid at a minimum wage of $6.55 per hour will see an increase in their paychecks after July 1, 2009.

Today, July 1, 2000, the state's minimum wage rate increases to $7.25 an hour. Although the federal minimum wage mandated increase doesn't become effective until July 24, 2009, the Kentucky General Assembly voted to have the wage hike take effect earlier.
