Shamarie did not turn into a pumpkin last night Stick around, the Claiborne report on the Tim Allen retirement gala is promised When we asked Shamarie if there was any last minute boost for retirement dinner for ACHS icon, idol, and legend Tim Allen, being held up at Lindsey Wilson last night, there was no word until mid-morning Sunday. As readers telegraph that "Nobody's there," to CM when Shamarie's delightful comments and contributions fail to show up regularly, we're making public this secret internal document. EdSo we do have that going for us, and we will not face the wrath of 10,000 S. Claiborne fans and addicts having withdrawal pains of a Sunday morning. -CM 2009-06-28 10:43:58 | Comments | Printable version

Rev. Joey N. Welsh. Another Angle, Proclaim Liberty Another Angle: the occasional musings of a Kentucky pastor Proclaim Liberty Throughout all the Land Originally posted on ColumbiaMagazine.com on July 2, 2006 By The Rev. Joey N. Welsh joey_e_welsh@hotmail.com People these days are familiar with many passages from the Old Testament books of Genesis and Exodus, but few 21st century Christians hear much about the book that comes next, Leviticus. Though it contains a scant few narrative stories, Leviticus primarily relates the detailed practices to be overseen by the Levites - members of the tribe of Levi - and the priests of the ancient Hebrews. To say that this section of Old Testament law is detailed is a major understatement. The book describes a holiness code, a religious reaction or practice in reply to nearly every conceivable aspect of ancient life. Chuck Hinman. IJM #305: Mom's Birthmark II's Just Me #305: Mom's Birthmark The next earlier Chuck Hinman story is The Old Church Piano Reader comments to CM are appreciated, as are emails directly to Mr. Hinman at: charles.hinman@sbcglobal.net by Chuck Hinman There is a light-hearted, tongue-in-cheek saying ---- "BEAUTY is only skin deep but UGLY goes clear to the bone..." -- that is intended to allay some of the hurt that accompanies the inequities of the distribution of good looks. Gender is not a factor except in how the inequity is handled. It is an accepted fact that aging is cruel. It is also a known that marvelous sun-tans, albeit glamorous on young people become a cruel destroyer of God-given beauty. For many, ravaging skin diseases are the culprit. For others, tragic accidents add their toll. And for still others, devastating birthmarks cause lifetime hurts that are only eased by heeding the familiar axiom -- "Beauty IS as beauty DOES." Epicurean Kentuckian<: Sky High Meringue at Circle R/b> Adair Countians from all over are learning the new Circle R Restaurant, owner Mike Stephens' classy success wedding the best of the old Circle R with the latest technology. Menu items including chicken, catfish, and tenderloin are enough like the old Circle R to let one imagine things as they were. Homemade desserts were a staple of the old Circle R, and the new one is the same, but going one better. Manager Linda Johnson has brought Harvey family pie making secrets to the restaurant, creating pastries like the one in the new pie case, above. Hardly a customer comes in who doesn't marvel at the skyscraper toppings. Almost all are impressed, but some, likeDallasite Kenny Beard, at the Circle R. The former Jerichovian, who was raised right, said it was tall meringue, but he had seen taller. "In a restaurant in Tucson," he claimed. But couldn't name the exact place. One can take the report for what it's worth. The EK thinks this meringue is the tallest there is, and is certainly a candidate to go in the World Record Book Guinesses, as the beloved Columbia Mayor Coy Downey used to say, and would have added, of Manager Johnson's pie, "It was the best you ever put down your goozle pipe." That was his 5-Star rating. What's Cooking in Adair County, KY Click restaurant names for hours, directions, and prices.

Churches leading the way with use of Address Markers One of first to post an Address Marker is Antioch United Methodist Church, 8157 Burkesville Road, Columbia, KY. By Ed Waggener Possibly no single group has done more to promote the use of Address Markers than the Churches of Adair Couny. Antioch United Methodist Church is one of the latest to add a marker, which, in this case, serves a dual purpose: It lets those wanting to attend events at the church or find the Antioch Cemetery find it quickly, from anywhere on the face of the earth by entering the address in a Google searchbox or in their smartphone, and it shows respect for the safety of those attending events at the venue, whether it is for a worship service at the church or a burial at the cemetery.
