Burger throwdown? Writer suggests Hardscratch vs. Moore's About: Hardscratch Grocery To ColumbiaMagazine.com: I moved to Columbia three and a half years ago and have eaten at the Hardscratch Store several times. When company came from Pensacola, Florida we took them down to the store for a hamburger and they really liked them. We also like the fish that is fried on the last Friday night of each month ( I think that is right). I mentioned to someone how good the hamburgers were at Hardscratch and they said I needed to try one from Moore's Pool Hall. I haven't gotten around to that yet but maybe we should have a throwdown between the two to see which one is really the best. s/Maury Lewis 2009-06-11 07:58:28 | Comments | Printable version

Chance to fly 'Old Glory' all week To ColumbiaMagazine.com: Flag Day was first observed in 1877. In that year, Congress asked that all public buildings fly the flag on June 14. The Congress also requested the President, by joint resolution approved June 9, 1966 (80 Stat. 194), to issue annually a proclamation designating the week in which June 14 falls as "National Flag Week" and calling upon all citizens of the United States to display the Flag during that week. Today, Americia's Flag graces classrooms, statehouses, courthouses, and churches, serving as a daily reminder of this Nation's past accomplishmentsand ongoing dedication to safegusrding individual rights. The brave members of our Armed forces carry "Old Glory" with them as they fulfill their mission to defend the blessings of democracy and peace across the globe; our banner flies from public buildings as a sign of our national community; and its folds drape the tombs of our distinguished dead. The flag is a banner of honor to all-- a sign of our citizens common purpose. All right, Columbia here is your chance to fly "Old Glory" for a whole week. We could just fly them until the fourth of July. That's just a few weeks. We have three days to get our flag poles up and ready to display the "Stars and Stripes." s/Maury J.
