After-wedding play caps off reception at Shelbyville Theatre

THEATRE

When the little girl who loves Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs and anything princess related discovered the lighted stage, she was immediately in the spotlight, Neither fire breathing dragons nor spell casting witches could have kept her from it. In seconds she was performing an impromptu play, directing her cast with a mastery which held the adults spellbound as a star was born

A critical review

The Sunday, May 24, 2009 wedding of Teresa Jane Powell to Thomas Marcum Waggener, held beside the Sixth & Main Coffeehouse in Shelbyville where they met four years ago, brought together relatives, friends and community members to share in the celebration.

Afterward the wedding party walked down Main Street to the Shelbyville Community Theater where their union was toasted with wine and cheese and a row of homemade pies as far as the eye could see.

Letter: Red Barn Bar-B-Q is open - in Tompkinsville, KY

The RESTAURANT SCENE
Plan is still to reopen in Columbia: Gary and Marketta Durbree are barbecuing on South Main ST in Tompkinsville, KY the capitol of Monroe County but Marketta says that when the T-ville operation is running smoothly, Gary will be back to start rebuilding in Columbia, KY, where a fire on Sunday morning, December 14, 2008, destroyed Adair County's only Monroe County-style barbecue restaurant

Hi, Ed,

This is Marketta. I have been meaning to sit down and email you to let you know what's going on.

We have re-opened but in Tompkinsville. There was a building here that had a BBQ in it that was closing down due to the fact that the one running it was having health issues... so we are now open for business in Tompkinsville...same name, Red Barn Bar-B-Q.

Carol Perkins: All Gave Some, and Some Gave All

This most moving essay by Carol Perkins is posted just slightly later than we intended; it was received Sunday morning, May 24, 2009. It is posted now, on Memorial Day, as it should be. It is a timeless article, one, we'll make every effort to bring back annually on this day.-EW

By Carol Perkins

When I heard Billy Ray Cyrus sing this song at a concert last summer, I don't think I had ever fully listened nor totally comprehended the scope of the lyrics. What better son to commemorate Memorial Day.

"Love your country and live with pride,"

Memorial Day was originally a day for honoring fallen heroes. It began when women of the South placed flowers (usually poppies) on the graves of their husbands and fathers who died in the Civil War.

Sonnet written after a Saturday of feasting

Sharing Food

The three of us know well it is too much
but still we order chicken freshly fried.
The food is good but underneath the touch
of friendship warms the early summertide.

The circle at the luncheon birthday feast
have come to celebrate this special day.
The food again is good but not the least
ingredient is joy along the way.

Two friends now from afar have made a stop
to catch us up and share another meal.
Though seven years have passed we do not drop
the threads of interest time cannot steal.

From common likes we learn to share the glad.
In sharing food we steel against the sad.
-- Robert Stone, 23 May 2009
After these three big meals and a lot of visiting with friends, I have spent the weekend trying to get rested. -RS, May 25, 2009.
