Voting and recruiting in Immokalee, Florida

Vote for this FieldANOTHER CHAIN REACTION! There is no way Adair County can be stopped now. The Hamlett Calvary has arrived! With recruits. Battle Creek has never met the likes of all my Hamlett cousins. We're proud of Larry Joe. He runs a packing house in Immokalee. When you buy tomatoes at Walmart which say "Immokalee," likely he was in charge of the crew which shipped them. Another reason why Adair County now has 15,206 votes at 4:00pmCT, Thursday, May 21, 2009. -SHAMARIE CLAIBORNE

Hey Shamarie,

Your long lost cuz in Immokalee, FL, has some recruits voting daily. Good luck!

Adair Co. baseball gets support in DC, at Library of Congress

Vote for this FieldA CHAIN REACTION: How it worked: A friend in Horse Cave told a Methodist Minister in Fairdale and he told other friends, including a worker at the Library of Congress, and Adair County is getting votes from the chain, daily. In all, the "Horse Cave Connection" is accounting for dozens, or hundreds more voted for the Adair County baseball field every day, a major factor in Adair County's 15,154 votes at 3:40pmCT, Thursday, May 21, 2009. -CM

Mr. Waggener,

A dear friend, Rev. Rob Stout, sent me information about Columbia's efforts to win a field makeover from Frosted Flakes. I am glad to say that I have been voting for Columbia's field daily since finding out about the contest. I don't live in Kentucky, but treasure my connections there and have enjoyed several visits. I live in the Washington, D.C. area, actually in Virginia, and work in DC at the Library of Congress. I thought you'd like to know that you're getting lots more than "local" support.

When Rob sent the link to your paper's story about this contest, I also took the opportunity to explore your magazine. Reading about Columbia just makes me want to come to Kentucky again.

Good luck with the contest!

s/Susan

Thanks for your kind words. And we do hope when you come back to Kentucky you'll visit not only Louisville, Fairdale, and maybe Rob's other home, Hart County, KY, but Columbia as well! Thank you so much for helping our kids. We hope to hear from you again. ColumbiaMagazine.com has been privileged to carry the wonderful essays of your dear friend, which can be found by entering "Rev. Joey N. Welsh," or "Another Angle," in the searchbox. We revisit them often. -ED WAGGENER

Effie Heskamp was pretty, and finest Aunt ever

About: A thank you to Ol Joe

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

What a delight to be surfing and find a photo of my Uncle David and Aunt Effie.

While I was actually born in the farm house at Coburg I was raised in Lakewood, Ohio where my father was a teacher.

But we really never left Coburg in our hearts...and Uncle David and Aunt Effie were part of the reason.

She was unbelievably pretty and perhaps the finest Aunt ever. He was ever a model for me...what you can do with your life.

Thanks for recognizing them.

About: "The Claiborne Analysis Over 14000 in 6th place could reach 5th"

Ed,

I just wanted to let you know that I currently reside in Nashville, TN but originally from Columbia, KY and have 3 email accounts and vote for the Adair County Baseball Field everyday from all 3 accounts.

This field was in not-so-good shape when I attended ACHS during the late 80s. Wherever you are, please vote for this field. These boys and the community are very deserving.

Thanks and keep up the good work!

Memorial Day 2009 at the Columbia City Cemetery

Please help!

The Columbia City Cemetery is alovely hilltop setting which has been overlooking Columbia's town square since the early 1800's.

The beauty and tranquility of this historically significant City Cemetery continues to provide a peaceful resting place for countless friends, relatives, neighbors and loved ones.

This includes little known ancestors as well as many well known and prominent founding fathers of our community. In one way or another and due to its conspicuous location, "We Are All" stakeholders in this historic site; even if we just live here or just occasionally pass thru!

However; due to the lack of adequate funding sources, many upkeep and maintenance projects are on hold. Examples include road, driveway and walkway gravel and/or blacktop.

Adding park benches and repairing vandalism damage to historic stones would be considered if a sponsor could be found. As this is written, the cemetery's only source of income is from the sale of lots and a small amount from city government. This at best only funds mowing, filling in mud holes, picking up trash and storm debris.

Columbia City Cemetery deserves better care than money presently allows: YOU CAN HELP by sending any size donation which is tax deductible to:

The Claiborne Analysis: Over 14,000, in 6th place, could reach 5th

Vote for this Field

By Shamarie Claiborne

Yesterday, Wednesday, May 20, 2009, was a big day for the ACHS Baseball Field.

Adair County received over 2,000 votes!

We are solidly in 6th place, and if we vote as well today, we should move into 5th.

Momentum is building. At the present rate, we can realistically hope to climb to 4th, and there is one big advantage for Top Five competitors: We will be listed as on of the leaders.

Wherever you are, please let us hear from you. We have to keep the momentum going over the Memorial Day weekend. Write me, Shamarie Claiborne at: shamariec@windstream.net, or send letters to ColumbiaMagazine.com. Either way, we'll do our best to post them on CM.
