Commends AC Baseball Boosters To ColumbiaMagazine.com: I would like to commend the AC Baseball Boosters for trying to obtain more suitable facilities for the boys and the community. So often monetary efforts are the only ways in which one can offer any assistance. This campaign enables anyone who is willing (regardless of financial status) to help. There is no running water and only portable restrooms for people to use. This doesn't offer a very healthy environment for our children. Our kids need this improvement, and they are worth the time to vote. s/Danette Lawless 2009-05-11 15:44:52 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Letters and Reader Feedback

Agrees with CM, but thinks it is a matter of self-reliance About: "Coach says stance may deter readership of CM" Ed, I'm with you on this one. I don't buy into the "time' argument you put forth but you have taken a principled stand otherwise. I hear you loud and clear in your support for the ballfield and I also agree that it is a community facility and should be supported by the local community. The opposing mindset seems to be that someone else should take care of us because we're incapable of doing it ourselves. I feel that attitude is prevalent not only in Adair but across the country and is at odds with what made this country the greatest in the world. People I love have been helped through this site. I also really, really appreciate you concern for children's health. That being said, I must say that I have a slightly different opinion on the whole matter. Coach says magazine's stance may deter readership of CM 1) On one element below, my assertion that the Frosty Flakes voting process was "too slow," Ryan McQueary is right. We don't think people need to be on computers as a life, but to make real life in Adair County better and easier. And the best time we made on voting was four minutes. Another, more techno-savvy friend says it only took her 30 seconds, but we think even at that, it's bad odds and a bad misuse of time. On the the Ryan's third question, "How could you say that all of Adair County would not be in support of one of the oldest athletic fields in Adair County, he's simply and utterly wrong e never said that. Ever. We do support a new playing field. We hope the school board, community contributions, or improved attendance and concession purchases will provide the necessary funds for this badly needed project. -ED WAGGENER Dear Ed, A few months back when I asked you to place our "Frosted Flakes" campaign on your website you replied that you tried it but the site was too slow and you were afraid it would deter your readers. Now you say, not all of Adair Co. is supportive Frosted Flakes promotes poor nutrition, and you feel that our chances are very slim of being selected so it''s kind of like, why bother. Randy Burns: About CM refusal to Frosted Flakes Hi Ed, I can't help but be confused. How could folks from our community voting in the campaign that could result in our school system receiving the renovations at the baseball field be considered a bad thing? I enjoy visiting your webpage, but your stern unwillingness to support this project doesn't make sense to me from a community standpoint or a business standpoint. Just a thought. s/Randy Burns Randy we understand your position. But, we're talking kids health here, first. And we feel a higher responsiblity on that. And secondly, we're talking about the cumulative amount of time which would be used to vote. We think it's a bad deal, even if it "succeeds." Ask us to make a contribution to the baseball field, we will. It will be small. But we will. Ask us to publicize games. We will. We told the promoters of this effort early on that, on this one--and we hope this is the only one--we don't think it is a good idea. 2009-05-11 10:47:05 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Letters and Reader Feedback

Mike Talley thinks CM wrong not to help campaign But we think Coach Talley needs to re-do the math.We think this is a bad investment of time, even if Adair County "wins." 'No' to letter wanting CM for basefield Frosted Flakes campaign Over the past few weeks, several readers have asked for CM support for the campaign to win a new baseball field renovation for Adair County High School. The following letter is one of these. Our opposition has been private, thus far, but after a few emails urging help, we're printing one, and because of time resources, printing a reply which we hope makes our position clear: -ED WAGGENER. To ColumbiaMagazine.com The ACHS baseball field has been selected as a finalist for a contest in which the 30 fields that recieve the most online votes will receive a renovations courtesy of Kelloggs. I heard about this via a forwarded email and have been spreading it through social networking sites and such. It seems lots of folks *especially right there in Adair County* do not even know about it! How can we promote this??? the contest ends on May 31 and "our field" is currently ranked 55th so we need to move up 25 spots *very attainable*. I think with the support of your site, the newspapers and the local radio stations, we can do this and it would really benefit the community! Please let me know if/how I can help. s/Shaun Gooden Thanks: We respect your motives for supporting the campaign. We hope you'll appreciate our reasons for not participating. From the outset, we've made our position clear. We think the campaign is well intentioned, but a bad one for Adair Countians. We respect your right to conduct the campaign, but, on-balance, our idea is that it is not in the overall interest of Adair Countians to become involved. Our answer is "No." We can't, in good conscience, encourage participation in the campaign.

First Mother's Day without mom was hard day 'She was not only my Mom, but my best friend,' Rita Neat says' This my first Mother's Day without my mom, Janice Corbin. It was such a hard day for me as I went to the cemetery to take flowers to my mom. I went to her house and picked one of every kind that was blooming and took to her. She had so lovingly planted all of them. As I sat there, I thought how blessed I was to have her as my mom.She was not only my mom but my best frriend. I love her and miss her so much. I was always told you would never know how much you love your child until you have your own. How true that is. There is no greater gift than that of the love of a mother for her child. God has richly blessed my life and I am so thankful to have had the time I did with my mom. If you haven't taken the time to tell your mom how much she means to you and how much you love her, take the time and do it now. You will never regret it. Happy Mother's Day to all mothers.
