Straight line winds caused considerable damage across a narrow path stretching from the corner of High and Greensburg Streets in Columbia to one mile out Bull Run Creek this afternoon, Monday, April 13, 2009.

Steve and Jennifer Earnhart, Norfork, VA, saw the winds blow up while taking a walk at the windmill on Gobbler's Knob above Bull Run Road. The Earnharts were revisiting the site, where they were married six years ago. "Susan Lynn (Barbee) drove up to get us," Steve Earnhart recalls. "We got in her car and watched as the winds flattened the grass and we could see leaves and limbs blowing around over Columbia."

Virginia Birkett's Plum Point days: We lived off the land

Catfish gigged from underneath rocks were delicious addition to family meals
Inspired by reading: " BJ Fudge Biggest Fish topped by 1 still in Green River Lake KY"

By Virginia Kimbler Birkett, Somerset, KY

I don't know about this story of Dave Rosenbaums that Otley Gilpin told to an Adair County journalist, but when I was a small child of maybe six, my family and I lived at Plum Point, up on Green River.

My brothers used to go gigging for large catfish. They would go out in an old boat; one would go underwater and gig large catfish from underneath rocks.

Catfish vs. Wrecker: Catfish, 1. Wrecker, 0

Wherein, stopping short of accusing Great Wooded South columnist of outright Prevarication, 1st, Adair native son reminds us of a firsthand account from the late Otley Gilpin himself of one of the monster catfish in Green River Lake at Plum Point
About: "The biggest fish story ever"

By Dave Rosenbaum, Frankfort, KY - but honest - denizen
Of noble Fairplay-on-Scenic 704, Adair Co., KY stock and nativity

The fish in the story from Mr. Fudge was indeed a tolerable big fish but I suspect that the story was fabricated. It did remind me of a true account written some years ago by a great Adair County reporter and journalist.

The account, as I recall it, was from an interview with Otley Gilpin of the Coburg Community:

Easter reminded of creeks and hills of Kentucky

By Rachel Lyons

Easter weekend is already upon us and after two warm days, another cold front came in on the north wind, Friday night. With only a couple exceptions, it seems every Easter Sunday I can remember has been snowy, rainy or cold and followed with sunshine later in the day. Thinking about it reminds me of the creeks and hills of KY.
