Mary Dennison: Would like to see book swap area

About: David Grigsby: A proposal for the Old Adair Courthouse

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

I would love to see a coffee house and bookstore.

One thing I miss about moving down here (and don't get me wrong, I adore living here) is the coffee houses I had back up in the city.

Perhaps part of the coffee house, also, could have a "book swap" area (not sure if we have one in town) where folks could come and leave books they did not want anymore, and browse and take home others they might like. I have quite a few books I could donate to it.

My favorite coffee house up north had one of those - found some interesting books there that I never would have looked for at the bookstore.

About: David Grigsby: A proposal for the Old Adair Courthouse

Kim Hadley: Street numbers on your house could save your life

About:"Thanks for including street addresses with numbers"

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

I agree with you on providing street addresses with numbers for someone to find your home.As was also stated in the article it could save your life someday. As a member of Emergency Services in Adair County I would like to advise any one who needs a Reflective Address Sign for their Home Please go down to Ralph Curry's Office (Sheriff), in the Adair County Courthouse, 500 Public Square, Columbia, KY, and for $10 you can purchase one.

This signs are very easy to see especially at night and they have numbers on both sides so you can be found quicker because, if not, we spend extra time trying to locate you and it could determine the end result of your Emergency.

And, Adair County, if you know anyone who could benefit from this service, please let them know.Thanks.

Dave Rosenbaurm: What would old timers would think?

Comment on: David Grigsby's, A proposal for the Old Adair Courthouse

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Time and tide have sure passed me by.

Time was when a group of men, including my grandfatehr Loren Guthrie, would sit on the benches and whittle and tell stories. In the event they got a craving for coffee, they would walk over to Coomers' Restaurant.

I'm not so sure what they would think about selling latte in the courthouse.

Yes, I would visit frequently.

s/Dave Rosenbaum

Good memory. Maybe we ought to bring back whittling and sidewalk preachers -EW

A proposal for the Old Adair Courthouse gets support

Backs: David Grigsby's, A proposal for the Old Adair Courthouse

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

I'm with you David. I'm very sorry we lost the cafe we had, but we did, and we need to move on. I think your idea would be a great start to what could be a great use for all or part of the old courthouse.

I think a cafe/coffee shop would support, and be supported by, for example, a community little theater in the courtroom on the second floor of the building and some other shops highlighting local artists and craftsmen and women.

Commentator invites discussion on a proposal for building, a symbol of the soul of the county whose future is uncertain when new justice center opens and county attorney, sheriff, move to Annex

By David Grigsby

I am in the beginning stages of gathering interest from the college and the community about turning part of the courthouse into a campus coffee shop.

I would love to see a permanent, relaxing, professional coffee shop in our community.

For events: Thanks for including street addresses with numbers

Thanks for the overwhelming response to ColumbiaMagazine.com's request that Streets and Numbers be included in announcements. The following is just a reminder. Addresses for all public venues may be obtained by calling Mary Allender, Adair County 911 Coordinator, Phone (270) 384-4760, or by going by the office in the Adair County 911 Building, 107 N. High Street, Columbia, KY -ED WAGGENER

When sending events for posting on ColumbiaMagazine.com, please give all announcements the 5Ws (Who? What? Why? Where? and When?) and an H (How?) test to make sure all necessary information is included.

For public safety reasons (all public venues have street numbers; they're available from the county's 911 Coordinator and should be prominently displayed for public safety), and in themselves give immediate directions to your location.
