Wanted: Photo, memories of two room Pickett's Chapel School

Does anyone out there have a photo of the two school building which once stood at Pickett's Chapel? Remember the teachers? The tennis court? Any of the illustrious alumni who studied therei? 2009 Adair County Farmers Market just around the Corner

The 2009 Adair County Farmers Market is scheduled to open on May 15, 2009. Customers of the Adair County Farmer's Market will have their choice of produce from apples to zucchini from over twelve vendors this year. Hours of operation will be on Tuesday's and Friday's from 6:00-10:00amCT.

Any producer wishing to market produce through the Adair County Farmers Market should stop by the Adair County Cooperative Extension Service and fill out a vendor application.

Obituary: H.W. Stotts, 74, Columbia, KY

Mr. Stotts was a member of a large, respected South Adair County Family. He was a member of Wells Chapel Baptist Church and attended Pierce Chapel Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and a retired computer programmer

H. W. Stotts age 74 years of Columbia, KY passed away suddenly at his home, Sunday April 29, 2009.

The funeral service, Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at 11:00amCT at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY, with Rev. William Karnes and Rev. Mature driver course to be offered at Adair Extension office

The Kentucky State Police will be offering a mature driver improvement class. The class will last for four hours and there are no tests. Trooper William Gregory will be doing the program. The program will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2009,beginning at 10:00amCT.

Students must attend the entire class to receive their certificate. Deadline to register is Friday, April 17, 2009.Upon completion, students will receive a certificate which, under Kentucky law, entitles anyone over the age of 55 to three year auto insurance discount. You will need to bring a sack lunch.

PRIDE cleanup April 18, 2009; free dumpsters, April 24, 2009

Adair County and City of Columbia cleanups are both Saturday, April 18, 2009

Adair County residents are invited to participate in PRIDE Spring Cleanup Month activities planned by Judge-Executive Ann Melton and the Fiscal Court in April.

"I encourage everyone to come out and participate," Judge Melton said.

Volunteers can enjoy the great outdoors, good company and food during the county's PRIDE Cleanup Day on Saturday, April 18, 2009 Volunteers who pick up roadside litter around the county that day will receive a free lunch; onprofit organizations can earn $50 per mile for cleaning roadsides, thanks to a state anti-litter program.

Crappie USA event May 1-2 on Columbia, KY's Green River Lake

Major crappie tournament on Green River Lake May 2, 2009, with pre-tournament seminar at LWC.
The Crappie USA event scheduled for May 1-2, 2009, Green River Lake, sponsored locally by Columbia-Adair County Tourism Commission.

Crappie USA Inc., will hold a qualifying event on Green River Lake at Holmes Bend Marina and Resort, 5380 Holmes Bend RD, Columbia, KY, Saturday, May 2, 2009. Anglers will be fishing for a 7-fish limit of crappie, which could net them a check along with the opportunity to advance to the regional event and the Crappie USA Classic, the most prestigious event in crappie fishing today.

A pre-tournament seminar will be held on Friday evening, May 1, 2009, at the Lindsey Wilson College, Dining & Conference Center, Helen Flatt Drive, off Lindsey Wilson Street, Columbia, KY. Sign up will begin at 5:00pmCT with the meeting and a National Sponsor Field Test Product Drawing starting at 7:00pmCT. This seminar is open to the public. For those not fishing the event are encouraged to come out to this meeting and meet the top crappie anglers in the region.

Blue Raider Bob helps dedicate Allen County Library

Lindsey Wilson College mascot Blue Raider Bob was in Scottsville, KY, Friday, March 27, 2009, to celebrate the dedication of the renovated Allen County Public Library.

Blue Raider Bob took part in the ribbon-cutting ceremony and also visited with local residents.

Lindsey Wilson College's Scottsville campus has been a part of the Allen County scene since 1996. The newly renovated campus is now located on the public square, which itself is a being transformed into a showcase Kentucky downtown. The two campuses are approximately 62 miles apart. To visit the community, take the Louie B. Nunn to Glasgow, KY to Exit 11, go south on US-31E for approximately 21 miles, then turn left on KY 101/Smith Grove RD to Scottsville's downtown. The community is a laboratory town for innovation, with new restaurants, sparkling business fronts, and even a building for incubator businesses.

Sixteen Adair Co. residents honored at LWC banquet

COLUMBIA, KY: Sixteen Adair County residents were honored Thursday night for their academic success at Lindsey Wilson College. The 16 Lindsey Wilson students were recognized at the college's second-annual President's List & Dean's List Banquet, held in the Roberta D. Cranmer Dining & Conference Center.

Recognized at the banquet were: Justin Burris, Steven Coffey, Korianne Cox, Sherri Crawhorn, Sarah Durbin, Lisa Janes, Greg Koller, Sara Lewis, Michael Mitchum, Carrie Radford, Hannah Peck, Whitney Stearns, Zack Todd, Nequila Wilson, Shantila Wolford and Shawna Wolford, all of Columbia, KY.

Students recognized at the banquet had been named in the last year to either the college's President's List or Dean's List.

Students named to the President's List have a semester grade point average of 4.0 on a 4.0 scale in 12 hours of academic credit. Students named to the Dean's List have a semester grade point average of at least 3.5 in 12 hours of academic credit.

STORY
Campbellsville University's School of Education building will hold a Prayer Walk Monday, March 30, 2009, at 4:30pmET/3:30pmCT in the new building at 302 N. Hoskins AV, Campbellsville, KY. Everyone is invited. The Prayer Walk will serve as an act of dedication during the construction phase of the 14,000-square-foot building. Those attending will be able to write favorite scriptures on the floor of the building as an act of dedication of the building to the Lord. Dr. Michael V. Carter, president, will give opening remarks with reflections on the past and projections for the future. Everyone is invited to the Prayer Walk.
