David Jones is now B 'n' M Fishing on Pro staff

New designation is a realization of a dream to become the best at an avocation he learned from two masters, Grandfather Presley Chelf and buddy Sammy Blair, who grounded him in basic fishing skills and gave him the solid foundation for a fishing career which has now gone to a whole new level

By Ed Waggener

With the appointment of David Jones of the Jones Chapel Community, Adair County is now home to one of only 40 staff pro's for B 'n' M Fishing, a nationwide fishing gear company headquartered in West Point, MS. Of the 40, one other is in Kentucky, which means the Commonwealth's great status as a fishing state lets it have a disproportionate number of B 'n" M staff pros.Jones is a crappie fishing guide who works exclusively on Green River Lake, primarily out of the Holmes Bend Marina & Resort.

Wants more on Circle R reopening

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Have been reading about the history of the old Circle R Restaurant. There are some very interesting facts about history of the restaurant. When is the new replacement restaurant opening? Haven't seen any ads for this. Also do I remember correctly that a new restaurant in Knifley, KY. Thank you and I can't express how much I enjoy reading about the happenings in Adair County where I was born and raised until I was 12 years old.

s/Carolyn Pruitt

The Circle R Restaurant, along with a new miniature golf course, is very nearly complete. An opening date hasn't been announced, but should be shortly.

The Holler's Owl is beautiful specimen

The Holler's Owl is beautifulAbout: Shamarie Claiborne's "Birds of Kentucky: The Barred Owl in The Holler"

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

This is definitely a beautiful Barred Owl.

Spotted Owls have spots on the belly and Barred Owls have streaks, which is what you see in the photo.

And, there are no Spotted Owls in KY or anywhere East of the Mississippi.

The Consensus is The Holler Bird is Barred Owl

The Owl in The Holler by Shamarie Claiborne

Better bird experts have concurred that the Owl in the Holler is a Barred Owl, not common in these parts, but not as rare as the Northern Spotted Owl our resident neophyte owler hoped it would be. We got these comments:

Sue Mullins wrote:
Great picture! Of course I enjoy all your pictures!

Billy Joe Fudge went right to the point:
Barred Owl.

Crystal wrote:
Looks like a Barred Ow. Adult size should be about 21 inches. Hard to tell size from the photo. It's call would be a excellent identifier. Makes a very distinctive "who cooks for you" call.

Of course, further comments are welcome
