Sometimes gardeners are also archeologists. This was the case on Tuesday March 17, 2009, as the Adair County Garden Club with help from the City of Columbia Street Department and the Class D facility began work on the lost Rose Garden at the historic Trabue House.

The original rose garden was dedicated in June 1977 to Julia Miller Horton as a gift from her husband and friends. The beautiful garden graced the front of the Trabue House for many years. After several requests were made to the Garden Club to restore the garden work is finally beginning.

Family of Jace Cole sends thank you

Columbia's Precious Jace Cole

Prayers and outpouring of love from this wonderful community have seen him through surgeries and continue to sustain him and family during his recovery.

"Those prayers are what brought Jace through his surgeries and help him to recover."

To all who helped during Jace's illness:

We want to say thank you to this wonderful community for all you have done for our family during Jace's illness. Our son, Jace, was born on January 27, 2009 with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome.

He was flown to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital and remained there for almost six weeks. The outpouring of kind acts from this community has been overwhelming.

You will never know how much we appreciate all that was done for us. The visits to the hospital, phone calls, emails, food, money, and most of all your prayers mean more than we can tell you.

Almost everyone we talked to told us that Jace was on the prayer list at their church.

Those prayers are what have brought Jace through his surgeries and help him continue to recover. We are having to keep Jace in and limited his visitors for the next few months until he can have his next surgery. We look forward to having visitors at that time. Please continue to remember him in your prayers.

s/Jamie, Tricia, Taylor & Jace Cole

Members of the Adair County Garden Club can be seen out on our roadways twice each month cleaning up litter.

On Wednesday, March 18, 2009, members focused on Greenhills Road picking up 15 bags of litter along the 1.3 miles of roadway. This well traveled road is a popular short cut to avoid the downtown traffic and it shows in the amount of litter left along the road.
