The Adair County Cheerleaders will be competing at the Sweet 16 Tournament this week. During Wednesday's game they will be performing two floor cheers at halftime. They will also be leading the crowd during game time on the sidelines. A big part of our score comes from crowd participation. As we all know Adair County has the best fans in Kentucky, so we would like you to support our cheerleaders at the tournament by following along with the cheers. Let's let Rupp know that Adair County is there, hopefully we can bring home two trophies for our county. Thank you for your support. -SHELLEY MATNEY

RUSSELL SPRINGS, KY - Lindsey Wilson College football Coach Chris Oliver hasn't signed a recruit yet from Russell County, but Thursday morning he paid a visit to someone who still has two years of eligibility left. The only drawback is that the prospect hasn't played a college football game in almost 74 years.

Cloyd Lacy of Russell Springs, KY, is the only known remaining player from the last Lindsey Wilson football team. Lindsey Wilson folded its football program after the 1935 season in order to focus on a men's basketball program, which became a charter member of the Kentucky Junior College Athletic Conference.

Web Reporting 101: Making announcements more effective

Remember Mr. Kipling rules, applicable for Web Reporting 101: Do a last minute check before submitting to see if announcement answers: Who? What? Why? Where? and Where (Mr. Kipling would want a street number, we're sure) and How? And, yes, Mr. Kipling would have wanted anyone urging an action or expressing an opinion to post their names with the announcement.
We're reminding everyone to do the last minute 5W's and an H check to see that the announcement answers the questions of Rudyard Kipling's honest serving men: Who? What? Why? Where? When? and How?

"Where?" is answered with a location which includes a street number.

Events listings which are written in paragraph form, using CM style for dates (March 20, 2009; not March 20th; 10:00amCT, not 10 A.M. central; etc) get top priority. Posters, flyers, photo announcements, pictures with imbedded graphics, are all considered advertising.

Our aim is to do as much at no cost as possible. The announcements are free for non-profits in Adair, Casey, Cumberland, Green, Metcalfe, Taylor and Russell Counties. on the assumption that no other paid advertising is being purchased in any form (print, broadcast, yard sign, flyer or t-shirt). Commercial announcements and events with charges are subject to ColumbiaMagazine's low advertising rates. Links to other websites are generally considered advertising.

The basic free package includes a front page story, a listing on the Community Events, a listing in CM Classifieds when applicable is also posted. And, on the day of the event, possible inclusion in the "Events in Brief" on the Main Page of ColumbiaMagazine.com.

Of course, advertising on CM is efficient, effective, and low cost, and multiplies the effectiveness of announcements. To advertise email using a Contact/Submit button or call (270) 250-2730. -ED WAGGENER

Adair County EMS has developed into one of elite in State

About: "Proud of Adair County Certified Critical Care paramedics"

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Ed, it hasn't been too many years since I was asked to serve on the Ambulance Board by former Judge R.L. Walker.
I joined Wallace Feese and the late J.D.Biggs and the staff of the ambulance service to begin a total re-structuring of what we had and what we wanted for the citizens of Adair County. The task was great, but I couldn't have asked to serve with more dedicated people.
From those early days until the present, I feel that our service has developed into one of the elite in the state. The service started with Rick Wilson as our first paramedic, and due to the dedicated employees of the service, look at where we are today.

Congratulations guys and gals --keep up the good work.
