A graveside service will be held Friday, March 6, 2009, at 1:00pmCT at Columbia Cemetery with Bro. Jim Williams officiating. Burial will follow. There will be no local visitation.

I am sorry to hear about the passing of Thomasine. I grew up in Columbia. Hindman & Thomasine were great neighbors. I remember quite well when they had their first child, Dwayne. My condolences go out to the family. The Loy family were a great inspiration in my life. Mr. Garnett & Mrs. Mary were my Sunday School teachers at Hutichson Community Church. State legislators to address Adair Co. Republican Party

Adair County Republican Party

State Senator Vernie McGaha (R-Russell Springs) and State Representative John "Bam" Carney (R-Campbellsville), Adair County's representation in the state legislature, are scheduled to address the Adair County Republican Party at their regular monthly meeting.

The event will be held on Monday, March 16, 2009, at 6:00pmCT in the basement of the Annex Building. Both men will speak and answer questions concerning recent legislation considered by the Kentucky General Assembly. All interested Adair Countians are strongly encouraged to attend this very important event.

KY Arts Council expands fellowship to new, emerging artists

Artists can enter competition for $7,500 Fellowship award

The Kentucky Arts Council is currently accepting applications for the highly competitive Al Smith Individual Artist Fellowship awards. This year the awards are open to professional artists and emerging artists working in the visual and media arts including craft, drawing, experimental and installation work, mixed media, new genre, painting, photography, printmaking sculpture, film, video and audio work.

Professional artists are eligible to compete for a $7,500 Fellowship award. Emerging artists, which includes Kentucky resident undergraduate seniors and graduate students in Kentucky college or university fine arts programs are eligible to apply for an Emerging Artist award of $1,000.

Far Off Broadway Players announces auditions

ENTERTAINMENT

The next production for Far Off Broadway Players is "Murder by the Book", a fast paced British comic whodunit, directed by Linda Hitchcock. Show dates are June 19-21, 2009, at the Plaza Theatre, Glasgow, KY.

Roles to be cast are two women and two men with an age range upwards of mid-20's to early 60's. Scripts may be checked out at the main desk of the Mary Wood Weldon Library but it is not essential to read the script first. Auditions will consist of readings from the script.

A British accent would be nice, but is not required.Audition times are:
  • Friday, March 20, 2009, 6:30-8:30pmCT
  • Saturday, March 21, 2009, 11:00am-2:00pmCT
  • Monday, March 23, 2009, 6:30-8:30pmCT
Auditions will be held at 112 E. Public Square, Alexander Law Office Building in downtown Glasgow, KY.

I sent an Email to Mr. Carney regarding his "flurry of activity" report.

It is well beyond my ken how after 230 plus years of school boards, city councils, county courts, state legislatures and federal congresses there could be any minute aspect of human existence that has not been diced, sliced, marinated and cooked beyond all recognition.

LWC Students, staff, at Governor's Prayer Breakfast

FRANKFORT, KY - A group of Lindsey Wilson College staff and students attended the Governors Prayer Breakfast, held Tuesday morning at the Frankfort Convention Center.

In addition to musical entertainment, the Lindsey Wilson group heard a keynote address by former Tennessee Congressman Harold Ford Jr. Ford, who is now a news analyst for NBC and MSNBC, is also chairman of the Democratic Leadership Council and a visiting professor of public policy at Vanderbilt University.

Kentucky governors have held an annual interdenominational prayer breakfast since 1965.

After the breakfast, the Lindsey Wilson group visited with State Rep. Jeff Hoover of Jamestown.

The Great Garden Club Book Count

The Adair County Garden Club will be replanting and maintaining the flowerbeds around the Adair County Library this spring. To raise money for the plants, soil and mulch we are collecting used books.
