Girls Freshman, JV teams had great seasons

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Our Girls Freshmen and JV basketball teams both won their districts this year. However, neither the ColumbiaMagazine.com nor the Adair Progress ever mentioned any of these young ladies' accomplishments.

A few mentions were made of the Varsity girls. Our JV and Freshmen teams both had a nearly flawless season, not to mention becoming the district champs. I am not complaining, just giving you a heads up for next season. These girls are going to be the ones to watch over the next few years. I just wish some of our local media would give them a little bit of the spotlight.

s/Brian Taylor

Thanks for sending this news. We are pround of the accomplishments of the teams. ColumbiaMagazine.com is entirely dependent on volunteer sports reporters for all sports news. We are happy to post news as it is received. We hope a follower of the JV and Freshman teams will send notes next season.-CM

KSP looking for aggressive drivers

Finally, a crackdown on dangerous practice of tailgating, on stretches of I-65 & I-75. Maybe there's hope for drivers on KY 80 west of Columbia, KY, the tailgating capitol of the world-CM

From Trooper Billy Gregory, Public Affairs officer
Kentucky State Police Post 15, Columbia, KY

Frankfort, KY - Drivers in Kentucky can expect to see heightened enforcement on Interstates 65 and 75 over the next few weeks. The KSP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement (CVE) Division launched the second of three waves planned for the 'Targeting Aggressive Cars and Trucks' (TACT) campaign.

Officers will be on the road, looking for drivers who show risky driving behavior around big rigs. Enforcement corridors include north and south-bound lanes on Interstate 75 (I-75), ranging from exit 76 through 129 and Interstate 65 (I-65) from exit 58 through 94. Counties targeted by the TACT campaign include Bullitt, Fayette, Hart, Madison and Scott. This span of interstate was selected based on crash data. Over the past three years, commercial motor vehicles have been involved in 300 fatal crashes statewide.

Tonya Dunn concedes war of words to BJ Fudge

With concession, she asks him to send bag of food to shelter
Reply to: BJ Fudge letter

To BJ Fudge, via CM:

I didn't send the letter to look down my nose at the rural farming community. Anyone who knows me very well knows that I don't look down my nose at anyone. I love Columbia and didn't mean to offend anyone. As I was writing I just wasn't thinking of the people who look for offense where none is intended.

I only meant to ask for help for those poor animals. I truly did not mean that letter the way it has obviously been taken. If you are so offended by what I said that you have to pull out a ten dollar word like "ptyalized" to punish me with then I can only say that I am very sorry, you win. Now that is settled, can you send a bag of food to the shelter?

s/Tonya Dunn

Letter: Franklin, KY, writer wonders why her shelter not credited

About: Rescue from Clean Slate Animal Rescue

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Hello my name is Jessica Trocha. I am 18. my mother also helped rescue animals from the shelter. why are there only a small amount of people listed for helping? There were tons of volunteers that came out and helped. I am not trying to be hateful or anything. I am just asking. The Friends of the Shelter in Franklin hardly got any credit. I was just wanting some credit for all the small shelters that helped that did not get credit.s/Jessica Trocha

You make a good point, and one that has not been missed by Jeff Thomas, Director of the Green River Animal Shelter, or by Adair County Judge Executive Ann Melton.

BJ Fudge writes in defense of his idea of local values

About: "An Open Letter to the Editor from Tonya Dunn"
Hey Ed,

I know you don't want your paper to become another "t---x" neither do I. But I as a South Central Kentuckian am just a little put out by this "looking down the nose, elitism" ptyalized in Ms. Dunn''s letter.

Billy Joe Fudge

Ms. Dunn,

You did not list any credentials that support your Doctorates in Philosophy, Psychology, and Sociology. It is quite obvious that you have been a student of these three "sciences" in some capacity for most of your life. It is also obvious that your studies have taken you into a realm that we who are "emotionally detached" can never hope to enter.
