Photo from the Past: Coomer's Cab

2009-02-23 - Walker ST, Columbia, KY - Photo from the collection of Maurice Hoover.
JAMES CLYDE HOOVER: "I think this was a photo of my dad, James Clyde Hoover, around 1954 or 1955. We left Kentucky in January 1956," writes Maurice Hoover. "I now reside in Bentonville, AR. Please note the phone # on door of cab." The phone number was four digit, which may have still been called into an operator at 108 N. Reed Street, who attempted to connect phones. Coomer's Cab was owned and operated by the late Mr. Vanus Coomer. The car appears to be a 1953 Chevrolet 210 four door sedan. The location appears to be in the middle of where the Frankllin Ford display area is today. The house on the right is believed to be in the same location, over one-half a century later. Comments and corrections on this cutline are welcome.

Gas Price Drumbeat: Buying from same dealers elsewhere

About: Knifley couple shops C-ville because of gas

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

For people that do not know: Most of the gas you buy in Columbia is shipped here by Newcomb Oil Co., whose main office is in Campbellsville KY.

Most all retail outlets in this and surrounding counties sell Newcomb Oil Co. gas. So when you go to Campbellsville to buy your gas, you're saving, but you're likely still buying from the same people.

And I would wonder if they aren't laughing at us all!!!
