Fantastic News: Oreo is home; but there's still work to be done!

Jeff Thomas has another fellow at Green River Animal Shelter, a Jack Russell Terrier found on the Columbia Square, who is impatient to find his owner

There are hallelujah howls ringing out in Doggie Heaven right now. Oreo, the black and white cocker spaniel found in the Fairplay area and posted on Columbia Magazine a few hours ago, is now happily reunited with his owner, Jeff Thomas, Director of the Green River Animal Shelter reports. "Ed," he just wrote, "thanks for the help. Oreo's owner saw his picture shortly after being posted. He's headed home." That's a near record for a reunion. Here's hoping that the same luck works for the Jack Russell Terrier, found on the Columbia Square, who is a bit impatient that his owner hasn't come for him yet.

Dog Alert! Jack Russell terrier found on Square, now at G.R.A.S.

Energetic young adult male found in the middle of the Columbia Square

Jeff Thomas, Director of Green River Animal Shelter, sent this portrait of as handsome a Jack Russell Terrier to ever walk the streets of Downtown Columbia and writes, "This Jack Russell Terrier was picked up in the middle of the Columbia Square by a passerby and was brought to the shelter. He is an energetic young adult male. White with brown spots and head. Wearing a blue collar."

The owner may already be in deep trouble with him, but it's not too late to call the Green River Animal Shelter to claim him, promise him not to lose him again, and pamper him to get back in his good graces.

A Puppy, Dog, Kitten or Cat Just for You Is Waiting at Green River Animal Shelter, 455 Jim Blair Road (take Appleby Drive off KY 55 at Columbia Church of Nazarene; Jim Blair Road goes around Adair Youth Development Center, Columbia, KY. Phone 270-385-9655.

Gas Price Drumbeat: Tired of being taken for backward idiots

Response to: "Going to AG might not be best tactic"

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

I would imagine that the management of these stations have gotten plenty of feedback from the public over the last few years since this is an ongoing problem in Columbia. They only take notice when they have to, and obviously, with the AG involved, they have to.

As far as the fine not being of benefit to the consumer because it goes to the state -- well, I would imagine the state could use any money they can get at this point in time given what a mess the finances are in!

At least the pitiful amount could be put in the state coffers and not the oil executives' pockets. Additionally, we will be on record of "knowing and objecting" to their tactics instead of just being given a nod and an "un-huh" and then just basically wrtten off as backward idiots that can be appeased with a few condescending words.

    Letter: Reader approves Whitfield vote

About: "Congressman Whitfield with losers on stimulus package"

    To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

I emailed Rep. Whitfield last night to thank him for the vote. Look at the junk in that bill that will indebt us for decades. Please show me how waiting for 2 years to fund roads, bridges, and "shovel" projects but giving money for foreign birth control and abortions can in any way "stimulate our economy"?If nothing else, this economy has made us track our legislators and what they are spending. Hope the Senate strips the bill and starts with true measures that boost jobs; but I am not holding my breath.

Gas Price Drumbeat: Gouged 22 cents a gallon and is hot!

    Greensburg was $1.89; Glasgow $1.67
About: "Going to AG might not be best tactic"

    To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Let me add a little fuel to this fire. I just returned to Greensburg from Glasgow tonight and am a little hot! I paid $1.89 for gas in Greensburg (because my car was empty) and got to Lagrange gas was 1.79 went on to Glasgow and gas was 1.67. Now would someone please splain something to me: Why, when crude oil prices go down the gas here goes up?

My brain is befuddled but I figure we must be getting the "royal" treatment somewhere along the line.
