Feedback: Going to AG might not be best tactic

Writer thinks going to management of stations better; writer says gas in Knoxville, TN is running $1.59 to $1.76 for gallon of regular
About: "Gas Price Drumbeat: Does AG need to be notified"

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

While I agree with Mr. Doss' premise of holding these stations accountable, I'm not certain that getting the AG involved is the best solution. Initially, I thought that might be the best way to go, but after thinking about it further, I'm not sure that it is. If the AG gets involved and finds the stations guilty of gouging, they fine the station and the State keeps the money. How does that benefit the consumer?

Songs distinguish Carolina, Black-capped chickadees

Songs distinguish Carolina, Black-capped chickadeesAbout: Chickadee lands at Tucker's Station

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:>

I think this is a chickadee and any chickadee in Kentucky is a Carolina Chickadee - didn't realize there are any Black-capped Chickadees in KY.

The Black-capped Chickadee is very similar to the Carolina Chickadee and where their ranges overlap they can be difficult to separate. In fact, they have trouble telling themselves apart and hybrids occur.

The most obvious difference between them is their songs. Black-capped sings a two note song while Carolina sings a four note song. Hybrids sing a three note song. Outside of the breeding season, when chickadees don't sing much, the Black-capped is slightly larger, has more white edging in the wing and has slower, lower-pitched calls.

Just my thoughts.

Remembering Julia Loy: She always had encouraging word

Remembering Julia Cole Loy

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Mrs. Julia Loy. I had the wonderful opportunity to work with her for several years while teaching at Col. Wm. Casey Elementary. She always had an encouraging word for me...many times at the moment I needed it the most. As I remember the wonderful memories we shared, please know that my prayers are with the family during this time. May God bless each one of you.

With all my love,

Gas Price Drumbeat: Does AG need to be notified?

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

I noticed our gas prices jumped overnight. I checked areas around us and their's are the same as yesterday--average around us $1.67. Ours went up to $1.87. The governor declared an emergency which makes price gouging illegal. Some were just fined for price gouging during the windstorm back in September. Should we contact the AG?

Congressman Whitfield with losers on stimulus package

Congressman Ed Whitfield voted with the losing side yesterday against H.R. 1, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

Whether you agree with Whitfield that the bill was a "non-stimulus stimulus bill," as he describes it, or you consider his vote a partisan position which will put the First District of Kentucky in bad stead when Federal assistance is needed from the current administration, or have another opinion, you may want to let him know.

His contact information web page is at http://whitfield.house.gov/contact/index.shtml. or you may call Sandy Simpson at his Tompkinsville field office at (270) 487-9509.

Also voting on the losing side were Brett Guthrie (R-KY-2), Geoff Davis (R-KY 4), and Harold Rogers (R-KY 5). Voting on the winning side and whose districts are arguably in line for greater preferences when the stimulus package becomes law, as expected, were Representatives John Yarmuth (D-KY 3)and Ben Chandler (D-KY 6).

FRANKFORT, Ky. - With nearly 400,000 Kentucky customers without power, Gov. Steve Beshear said Wednesday that he is seeking an emergency disaster declaration from the federal government to expedite assistance to people in need across the commonwealth.

Attorney General warns retailers against ice storm price gouging

Attorney General Jack Conway is putting Kentucky retailers on notice that price gouging will not be tolerated during times of emergency.

Dos Carnitas Tacos, Por Favor

Pen writes, "I'm glad to finally have a place nearby that makes proper tacos, with soft, warm, corn tortillas, and just cilantro and onion on top. Unfortunately, their version of 'carnitas' is just cubed and fried pork, not the lovingly braised and meltingly tender dish you can get at some restaurants."
