Cardinal like bird may be Tufted Titmouse or Cedar Waxwing

Getting Ready for the Great Backyard Bird County Feb. 13-16, 2009
About: Reader wants help identifying cardinal like bird

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

I forwarded this request over to Wendy Burt, the Adair County Garden Club's bird expert and this is her reply.
Mystifying description, but it could have been a Tufted Titmouse or a juvenile Cedar Waxwing. Both have crests, like the Cardinal. The size/coloring of the Cedar Waxwing is more like a female Cardinal, but the head/face of the Tufted Titmouse is whiter. Hard to say without seeing the bird.
If Sara can attend the Backyard Birding 101 class on Saturday, February 7, 2009, at 10:00amCT at the Adair County Extension Office, 409 Fairground Street, Columbia, KY, we can try to identify it then.

Reminder: City meeting on Land Acquisition today

What Land Acquisition is to be discussed by City Council today? Anyone who is curious should attend the 1:00pm Special Called Meeting of the Columbia City Council today. As of now, the details remain a mystery.

By Ed Waggener

The agenda announced Friday, January 23, 2009, for today's meeting Monday, January 26, 2009, at 1:00pmCT, of the Columbia City Council, in City Hall, lists two items on the agenda: "1) Discussion of Land Acquisition 2) Executive Session Discussion of Possible Land Acquisition."

NOTES:

The clear inference in the announcement is that the Council will be discussing buying property for use by the City, unless one has a question about, "what the meaning of the word 'is' is."

KRS 61.823, related to "Special and Emergency Meetings" states: "Discussions and action at the meeting shall be limited to items listed on the agenda".

The use of the Executive Session for the "Discussion of Possible Land Acquisition," is limited. KRS 61.180(b) states that governmental units may go into executive session to discuss future acquisition or sale of real property by a public agency, "but only when publicity would be likely to affect the value of a specific piece of property to be acquired for public use or sold by a public agency." (Emphasis ours. -CM).

Boarding Houses

One month after I graduated from Liberty (Nebraska) high school, my parents and I loaded my clothes in the family car and headed for Peru, Nebraska where I was going to go to college. I was ready to begin college education to equip me for my life's work, whatever that would be.

I hadn't settled on a career but I was pretty sure it would NOT be farming. Dad and Mom apparently concurred. That's not to say I wanted to become a teacher. Peru State Teacher's College was the cheapest place to go to college, and it was near home.
