Letter: Thank police for the job they do About: " Law officers conduct should be like preachers" To ColumbiaMagazine.com: Police officers are held to a higher standard than citizens. They are under constant scrutiny from the public. These officers are human just as you and I. Should officers be speeding just because they can? No, they shouldn't. Some calls do not necessitate lights and sirens; however, you still want the police officer to get to your call asap. As a dispatcher, I receive complaints because the officers do not arrive at the speed of lightning to every minor complaint called in. For the record: How we corrected the bird belly color goof A photo of a red-bellied woodpecker was reposted in the Friday, January 23, 2009, Today Feature, in which the re-post, but not the original BIrds of Kentucky photo, captioned the bird a "White-Bellied" Woodpecker, because, in the photo, the Woodpecker's belly looked white. Turns out, Pen was right in the orginal post. The woodpecker is a red-bellied one. Here's the explanation which prompted the correction: To ColumbiaMagazine.com: Looks (color) can be deceiving. The picture of the White-bellied Woodpecker is actually a Red-bellied Woodpecker; Melanerpes carolinus. They have a slight red tinge on the belly. For reference, Google Red-bellied Woodpecker and click on images. Regards,s/Mike Potter 2009-01-25 07:48:19 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Letters and Reader Feedback
