Mr. Bragg was a member of a respected Western Adair County family. He was a former employee of Westlake Regional Hospital where he worked for 19 years

Jimmy Bragg, 65, Columbia, KY, passed away Saturday, January 24, 2009, at 3:09amCT, at the T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow, KY, after several days illness.

The funeral service will be Monday, January 26, 2009, at 2:00pmCT at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY, wth Bro. Lonny Karnes and Bro. Darrell Karnes officiating. Interment will be in the Moore Cemetery. The family requests visitation after 3:30pmCT on Sunday, January 25, 2009.

All farmers who wish to buy restricted use pesticides such as Atrazine, Warrior, Gramoxone, etc. must attend pesticide trainings once every three years. Those who have pesticide cards that are expired or who need to obtain a pesticide card for the first time should attend one of the following pesticide training sessions.

Adair Countian appointed to Advisory Panel for Exceptional Children

Adair Countian Ryan E. Beard has been appointed by Gov. Steve Beshear to the Kentucky State Advisory Panel for Exceptional Children. Beard will serve a term which expires August 8, 2011.

Beard, who lives on Dunnville Road near Eunice, is a special education teacher for the Casey County Board of Education. He represents educators on the board. He replaces Scott K. Teague, whose term expired.

There were two Joseph Cooley's who were in military service: Joseph Henry Cooley, who died in 1993, was the one in the Navy

I had an Uncle Joe Cooley who was in the Navy at this time. His name was Joseph Henry Cooley. He died in December 1993. The other Joseph Elmo Cooley listed on the Veteran's List was my brother and he was in the Army. He was born in 1930 and died in 1949 in Japan.

Columbia Rotary was founded in 1935. It welcomes community-minded men and women as its members. The club's regular usually meets every Monday at 6:00pm for weekly dinner meeting, but next meeting is on Tuesday to coincide with noted Lincoln speaker's appearance at Lindsey Wilson College

Winter Shorts Film Festival at Somerset Community College
Somerset Community College Theatre will hold its first "Winter Shorts Film Festival" on Saturday, January 24, 2009. The event will offer participants workshops and an evening of original short films in a variety of genres. Free filmmaking workshops will be available to participants during the day and the screening of the nine official entries will take place on Stoner Little Theatre's "big screen" at 7:30pmET. At 3:00pmET on the day of the Festival, Certified Final Cut Pro Trainer Jason Stogsdill will conduct a workshop in editing. At 5:00pmET members of the World Stunt Association of Kentucky will conduct a workshop on fight scenes for film. Those wishing to attend the workshops must contact the festival producer, Steve Cleberg, at Steve.Cleberg@kctcs.edu to reserve a slot. Festival audiences will have the opportunity to engage in a question and answer session with the filmmakers. The theatre is located in Stoner Hall on the SCC Somerset Campus North.
