Letter: A belated Happy 50th Anniversary to the Parnells About: Parnells thank all for help celebrating 50th anniversary To ColumbiaMagazine.com: I would like to wish Norma Jean and Joseph a Happy Belated 50th Anniversary. I worked with Norma Jean at Colonel William Casey many years ago. She is such a wonderful person! I had not talked to Norma Jean in many many years; we are all guilty of not keeping in touch with those special people that have touched our lives. I called Norma Jean last year and we had a good conversation catching up on everything that has happened over the years. I hope she reads this and know that I am wishing her many more happy years with Joseph. s/Paula Ball 2009-01-04 20:00:40 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Letters and Reader Feedback

Essay: New Year's Resolutions and the Myth of Eden Last week's Tom Chaney essay : Country Ham Essay By Tom Chaney bookstore@scrtc.com Once again inertia trumped creativity. This column from the files first appeared three years ago. It seems to still have some tread left on it. New Year's Resolutions and the Myth of Eden Last Thursday began the New Year. Most of us have steadfastly resolved to make changes in our lives and habits. By Groundhog Day all that will remain of our resolve will be the guilt of its fracture. When I contemplate losing the increasing number of pounds I have added; when I think of bringing order to the clutter of my desk reflecting the disorder of my life, I despair of improvement. On Pinewood CC: Writer has concerns about Pinewood plan Response to: "A Pinewood member writes in defense of PCC" To ColumbiaMagazine.com: One concern of mine about the country club has always been not letting locals play! Up until they realized they where in financial trouble, Adair County Citizens could not just pay a green fee and play, they had to be a member and pay the membership fee! And thats fine, but for us citizens that just want to play a handful of times every summer, it was just not worth a membership fee to do that! And I for one love where the new Wal-Mart is located, they couldn't have picked a better spot in my opinion. But since a few (profited from developing that property), it kind of makes you wonder why aren't they the ones buying this establishment, especially considering the recession we are in and so many people losing their jobs every day! This fundraiser could not have come at a worse time in my opinion. signed by yet another "Another Concerned Citizen" (not the same one as used the penname before) Contact information and name on file Thanks for sharing your thoughts. However, ColumbiaMagazine.com supports the private fund drive to save Pinewood Country Club by making it a part of Lindsey Wilson College. The success of the plan will make Columbia and Adair County a much better place to live. We expect there will be some real angels among the contributors--some people everyone should appreciate. Every individual and organization has had a chance to come up with a plan to save the country club; now a coalition of capable citizens are doing just that, and we applaud them. -EW 2009-01-04 02:59:08 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Letters and Reader Feedback Birthdays and Anniversaries for January 4 Happy anniversary, Dewey and Sue Rooks (1964) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Anniversary, Glen and Kathy Hunt (1969) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Anniversary, Randall and Lois Richards | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Aaron Ballou | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Ada Neat (1955) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Allie Brummett Caldwell | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Ava Faith Froedge | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Brian Campbell (1982) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Cynthia Melson | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, David (Tootie) Wheat (1993) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Edwin VanArsdale | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Greg Burchett | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Hannah Cockerham | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Jackie Helm | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Juanita Foley | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Lenny Stone | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Peg Schaeffer | (Updates/Corrections) In Memory Birthday, Dr. Robert Kell, Adair Co., KY (1954-2010) | (Updates/Corrections) In Memory Birthday, Leonard Bardin, Jr., Adair Co., KY (1943-2010) | (Updates/Corrections) In Memory Birthday, Clarence Brock,, Adair Co., KY (1924) | (Updates/Corrections) In Memory Birthday, Nancy Gadberry, Adair Co., KY (1939-2011) | (Updates/Corrections) In Memory Birthday, Lyndell Earl Bennett, 76, Adair Co., KY (1935) | (Updates/Corrections) In Memory Birthday, Mr. J.H.
