That's not Arthur Guiness speaking. So what about the debt we owe to Guiness? For creating the "World Record Book of Guinesses," as the late, great, Columbia Mayor Coy Downey called it? As well of the pints of chocolaty, coffeeish joy?. -EW

Letter on Veterans Park idea

About: Likes Veterans park idea

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Veterans have already paid! Those that failed to serve are the ones who owe.

s/Charles Marshburn

Precisely the point of the idea of letting citizens help finance a park which is to honor Veterans. The suggestion is not for Veterans to pay for their own tributes, but for citizens to be able to participate in a program which otherwise might not be built at all, or would not be as impressive as it should be. The Liberty Veterans Memorial Park is an ongoing success. We applaud Judge Melton and Mayor Bell for looking at ways to honor Adair County's servicemen. -ED WAGGENER
