Chuck Hinman: CAREGIVING 101

Short story: In with his cherished wife Connie in the middle of Alzheimer's, the author took great pride in her stunningly beautiful appearance. At the Tulsa International Airport, in one embarrassing moment, he learned, in good humor, a lesson in caregiving. Next previous Chuck Hinman story: A MAN NAMED BOB -CM

Some of the happiest days of my 50-year marriage to my precious, beautiful wife Connie were, strange as it may sound, after she developed Alzheimer's disease. Therefore, many of the things I write so easily about relate as my role as caregiver - not as a burden but in fulfillment of my wedding vows..."In sickness and health..." which the Lord helped me to take seriously.

Comments on CU confers degrees on students from Adair

About: Breanna Jean England Bolin among Adair County graduates at CU

Congrats Bre':

A college degree is a challenge for anyone, but as a wife and mother, (especially of those three young rambunctious bundles of hyper-charged masculine energy) I know you were faced with many obstacles. My hat is off to you for sticking it out and I applaud your perseverance, and industry.

Breanna Bolin is a special Adair Countian. The daughter of Minor and Judy England of Columbia, KY, she graduated from Adair County High School in the early 1990s. She was awarded an academic scholarship to Depaul University in Chicago. She did well there, but got homesick and came home. Shen went back to college full time after her employer in Campbellsville closed and moved the plant to Mexico. She has three sons, Alexander, Samuel, and Tyler. Her mother says she is the light of her parents' lives. "We are so proud of her." And, she said, Breanna will continue her education in January 2009, at Campbellsville, working to obtain a Masters' degree there. -EW

Tom Chaney: Review Dec. 14, 2008 of Lincoln the Lawyer

Of Writers and Their Books. Review #186 of Lincoln the Lawyer by Brian DickLast week's Tom Chaney review; reprint of review of : The Lion of Whitehall by William H. Townsend

By Tom Chaney

Deconstructing Lincoln

It is probably safe to say there have been as many books written about Abraham Lincoln as have been written about any figure in history. He has been studied and parsed and pronounced upon until there seems to be no room for more. His life and career have been chipped and chopped and ground fine in the mills of history.

Letter: Many would sponsor tributes to Veterans

Ed,

I don't know what I think about charging for the individual blocks in the veterans memorial. It is a good fundraiser and I cannot believe that there would not be someone who could and would come up with sixty-five dollars even for a perfect stranger if there was no family member who could do so.
