CU alumnus Vernie McGaha finds success in public office

Adair County native, ACHS graduate was drawn to Campbellsville University by music department, small town, Christian atmosphere. Politics followed career as band director, administrator in Russell Co. He's a member of thriving New Hope Separate Baptist at Ella, KY. Schuyler and Barbara McGaha's son has done well.

By Hillary C. Wright, CU student news writer

Vernie McGaha, a Republican State Senator for Senate District 15, which covers Kentucky counties Adair, Casey, Russell and Pulaski, said he was drawn to Campbellsville University by the music program offered.

"I truly enjoyed my years at CU," said McGaha. "The small town atmosphere and community involvement, small classes, personal relationships with teachers and a Christian atmosphere is all you can ask for in an educational setting."

Remembering Junior Burton: His visits will certainly be missed

John Edd Burton, Jr.: November 18, 1928 - December 7, 2008

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

I will certainly miss Jr. and the visits from time to time. I loved to hear him tell how his father used to keep a bed for my grandfather, Dr. Woodruff Flowers for a place for him to hide and rest during his many years as a country doctor. I understand that they cared a great deal for each other. Jr. said they hid "Grandoc's"" car in the barn, but soon the neighbors found out and Dr. Flowers began seeing as many patients at their house as he did in his office in Columbia.

I am indeed thankful for this fine family the the contribution they have made to our county.

s/Robert W. Flowers
