Obituary: Leonard Ray Taylor, 82

Mr. Taylor was a native of Adair County, a farmer and businessman, and a US Army Veteran who will be accorded military honors by VFW Post 6097

Leonard Ray Taylor, 82, died Friday, December 5, 2008, at 12:56pm, at the VA Medical Center in Lexington, KY.

The funeral service will be Monday, December 8, 2008, at 10:00amCT, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville ST, Columbia, KY. Burial will be in Haven Hill with military honors presented by VFW Post 6097. Visitation will be after 12:00 noon, Sunday, December 7, 2008.

Sheila Hare, chair of the Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce Christmas Decorations Contest, announced the following winners this afternoon at the Adair Annex Building. They are:
  • Best Decorated Interior: Don and Fran Neat, Campbellsville Road, Columbia, KY

  • Best Decorated Exterior: Mark and Cindy Harris, Lindsey Wilson Street, Columbia, KY

  • Best use of Lights and Yard Scene: Rita Keltner, Allen Schoolhouse Road, Columbia, KY

  • Best Decorated Business: Thomas Photography, Greg Thomas, owner, Burkesville Street, Columbia, KY.
The best interior, best exterior, and best use of lights and yard scene all received $100 prizes and plaques. The best decorated business will display plaque for one year. There are places on the plaque for engraving winners for 10 years.

Adair Fiscal Court has full agenda for December 9, 2008

The Adair County Fiscal Court will hold its regular December 9, 2008, meeting with a full agenda. The magistrates will consider the appointment of a Road Supervisor, and appointments to the Adair County Extension Board. Bids will be opened for preparation of the county payroll and for the sale of a surplus county road department truck, among other important topics in the 29 item agenda.

During the Christmas in Columbia on December 6th the Adair County Marching Band will be providing professional pictures with Santa. There will be two packages available.Package A will have an 8 x 10, 5 x 7, and 4 x 6 while Package B will provide six 4 x 6's. Each of these package will cost $15.00. You may personalize your package(s) with your childs name on the pictures for an additional $5.00. All proceeds will benefit the 2009 trip to New York to perform in the Macy's Day Parade.

Thanks for running the story on the Heartland Parkway Foundation (HPF) inaugural meeting. It's a great group with some excellent representatives from the four counties.

Other Adair Countians present were Sue Stivers, representing the economic development authority, and Joe Rogers, magistrate, one of the two at large members. Kevin Thompson is representing Lindsey Wilson College - he's the appointee of LWC president Dr. Bill Luckey.

Demonstrations at Highland Raku, Christmas in Columbia, Artists' Open House
On the weekend of Christmas in Columbia, there will be demonstrations at Jeff and Henrietta Scott's Highland Raku Studio, located at 7917 Burkesville Road (KY 61), Columbia, KY, in the Sparksville Community of Adair County. The demonstration on Saturday, December 7, 2008, will feature Steve Scherer. Donnie Perry will demonstrate throwing the wheel on both Friday, December 6 and Saturday, December 7, 2008. Henrietta Scott also plans to have a pottery firing demonstration during the event. The demonstrations are part of Artists' Open House, which includes two stops on December 6, from 10:00am to 5:00pmCT and on December 7, 2008, from 1:00pm to 4:00pmCT. The public is invited to: Highland Raku Studio 7917 Burkesville Road, Columbia, KY and The Heart's Image Gallery, 980 G. Taylor Road, off old KY 80 at 5 mile marker. Refreshments will be served. Depot will have two presentations of "A Christmas Miracle"
Dream Depot proudly presents: "A Christmas Miracle." We will be doing the first show Saturday afternoon, December 6th at 4:00pmCT. 5:00pmCTAC SAR will sell hot chocolate before parade
The Adair County Search and Rescue will be selling hot chocolate before the Christmas Parade in Columbia. Just look for us along the parade route around 5:00pmCT and warm up with a cup of hot chocolate on a cold night. The proceeds will go toward helping purchase much needed rescue equipment. If you would like to donate to the Search and Rescue organization accounts are set up at the local banks for donations. The 2008 Christmas in Columbia parade will be held Saturday, December 6, 2008, at 6:00pmCT. Line up begins at 4:30pmCT. Judging will be held immediately before the parade and the winners will be announced as they approach the Square. There is no charge for entering the parade.
