Christmas in Adair Co., KY 2008: Terry Patton's lights

2008-11-26 - New Concord Road, Columbia, KY - Photo by Shamarie Claiborne.
The BEST LIGHTS: Terry Patton was working on his Christmas lights this afternoon. For those that don't know, he has the best lights on New Concord Road, without question. When the boys were small I would have to stop for them to look at it all. There are lights on top of lights, a snow globe, nativity scene, a snowman, and so much more. It is so beautiful at night! If you are out looking at lights, it is worth the drive down the New Concord Road. A Today Feature picture

Letter: Where to find Recycling Trailer calendar?

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Do you know if there is a monthly calendar for the Recycling Trailer? I think this is a great idea, however, seem to miss it when needed. If there is a monthly calendar then maybe it can be posted on the site.

Thanks,
s/Beverly
Name and contact information on file

Thanks for your inquiry. In fact, the Recycling Trailer schedule is available several places. We haven't gotten December's yet, but here are some ways to know where it is by looking on ColumbiaMagazine.com:
  1. It is posted for each day in ColumbiaMagazine.com Events.
  2. It is posted each day on the front page of ColumbiaMagazine.com in the Today Feature
  3. A complete month of the schedule is posted as a Printer Friendly Poster. Here's one: Recycling Trailer Schedule Poster for November 2008
The latter can be printed out and posted at gathering places. Also, a call to (270) 384-4703, to the County Judge Executive's Office, can give the answer to many recycling questions, including the location of the Recycling Trailer.

Let us know if you have further suggestions for publicizing program.

Remembering Mr. James. He was a great person

"Letting kid drive his International Super H was GREAT

About posting: Note on death of Mr. James Dohoney

That is correct information (about the death of Mr. James Dohoney after he left the Hotel Miller Fire in 1977). He did pass away in his car after he helped people get out of the hotel.

My family used to live and work on his farm. He was a great person. The first money that I made was on his farm hauling in hay, I was 8 years old. Got to drive one of his International Super H tractors. Man that was GREAT!s/Dale Smith

LWC students help with Christian Life Center Thanksgiving

With photo. Click on headline of this and any CM story for full text plus photos, if any

By Duane Bonifer, LWC Director of Public Affairs

Some Lindsey Wilson College students made sure that members of the community had an opportunity to enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner. Students from LWC Freshman Advisor Laura Burwash's "Freshman Year Experience" recently helped set up for last Sunday's community Thanksgiving meal, held at the Christian Life Center.

The students started last week by moving more than 100 chairs and more than 20 tables from Columbia Baptist to the Christian Life Center. They returned on Sunday to set up the tables and chairs and then decorated the tables for the meal. After the meal concluded, the students reload trailers up with tables and chairs and helped take them back to Columbia Baptist Church.

"It was long and tiring day, but a great way to show our thanks to all those who have helped us along our way and give back," Burwash said.

1977 Hotel Fire: Relative sends note on death of Mr. Dohoney

In response to: All five fatalities in the 1977 Hotel Fire

We received this clarification on the death of Mr. James Dohoney, following the Hotel Fire of 1977:
James Dohoney did not die in the fire. He had a downstairs apartment that had a door which opened onto Greensburg Street. He got out of the hotel but went back in a few times helping get people out who were upstairs. He had a heart attack and died. I think he was in his car at the time of his death.
We appreciate the additional information.
