Sister in law recalls receiving word of Hotel Fire death

Rommie Graham

Reply to story: List of those who lost lives in Hotel Fire

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

I am Barbara Graham. My husband is Donald Graham. Don is from Breeding, KY and went to school in Columbia and is a 1958 graduate of Adair County High School.

The oldest brother of Don's was one of the five who died in the hotel fire. Don was in the Air Force on leave, and was getting ready to be shipped to Iran when we received the phone call at 4:00 a.m. that Rommie Graham had died in the fire. What a blow to us.

Letter: Wants list of those who lost lives in Hotel Fire

Learned after marriage that both she, future husband were onlookers at disaster
About: Photo of the Hotel Miller Fire

Ed,

Would anyone happen to know the names of the five people who died in this fire? I was only nine at the time.

The picture has conjured up a lot of old memories for both my husband and I. It turns out that we were both there the night it burned and we were standing in almost the same location. Too bad we didn't know each other back then; of course I doubt he would have wanted anything to do with me since I was nine and he was seventeen.
