Weather reluctantly reported by COF from Knifley, KY

About: Why snow lasts longer in The Holler

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Here on the drumlin over Knifley we knows better then to venture out when the Good Lord plainly meant for us to stay hunkered in.

However, since you asked so kindly, I did send Miz Emily out to get a measure of the weather. After I got her unbundled and hauled over to the Franklin, she reported that indeed the ground was white in most places.

Upon further thawing she also said they iffen CM and I had any more fool ideas, she would pack us both out and lock the door.

Gardeners Love the Adair County Library

(Adv) Farm & Gardening, CM Classifieds (Adv)

By Barbara Armitage

The Adair County Garden Club gathered together on Thursday November 20th to learn more about using our local library as a garden resource. LeeAnn Jessee and the staff at the Adair County Library graciously hosted the November meeting.

Gardening is a 12 month a year job even though the vegetables are harvested and there is a dusting of snow on the rose bushes gardeners are still hard at work. With only a few months until spring the pressure is on.

The Weather: Why snow lasts longer in The Holler

With photo; click on headline for complete story and picture

By Shamarie Claiborne

One of the reason's I love The Holler is because when it snows it takes forever for it to melt. In winter the way the sun hits, one whole side never gets direct sunshine.

There was snow last night, Thursday, November 20, 2008, and there was solid evidence of it this morning.

It makes for snow and ice sometimes a week after it is gone everywhere else! Hope this little snow is a sign that the alamanic is correct when it says "lots of snow" for us the winter season!
Thanks for the report from The Holler, a kindly valleyish place. We are also needing reports about the Highlands above Knifley and down at Fairplay, and the Alpine plateau areas centered on Sparksville and Breeding; especially would like to have photo of snow on the buffalo herd along Weed-Sparksville Road, with the great beasts grazing on snow covered pastures, showing steamy breaths, nickel posture, if possible Thanks. -CM

Comment: Traffic light needed at dangerous CWB crossing

CPD investigates another accident at N.61 and bypass

To ColumbiaMagazine.com

I happened upon the accident at N. 61 and Bypass yesterday afternoon. While KSP was directing traffic around the damage vehicles, I wondered how much in total this one accident cost the insurance companies, KSP and everyone else involved.

Wouldn't it be much cheaper if the state placed a light at this dangerous intersection before it takes a life that, unlike a vehicle, can't be replaced.
