Lake Cumberland elevation up to 694.16 feet

Lake Cumberland elevation was up to 694.15 feet on April 7, 2008, according to the latest weekly update from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The report said that releases for hydropower has been increased from three to four units, with around the clock operation at noon on Monday.

The increased storage in the lake was to help reduce flood impacts on the lower Ohio and Mississippie Rivers, the report, dated April 9, 2008, said. To see complete update, Click here for April 09, 2008 (latest) Wolf Creek Dam update.

Feedback: Young St., Greenhills Road getting damaged

    RELATED LETTER

    To ColumbiaMagazine.com

I too have a bone of contention with the lack of progress on the Hwy 80 Bridge. I commute to Somerset for work each day and every since this past October, I have had to drive through Russell Springs to get on the parkway even though prior to the bridge being out, I could much more easily have driven Hwy 80 into Columbia to get on the Parkway.

Most of the community is having to go out of their way, daily, due to the bridge construction, just as I do.

I have noticed Greenhills Road is soon going to need to be repaired because of the increased usage. Also, has anybody noticed all the road damage done to the entire length of Young Street? It appears that as soon as Hwy 80 bridge project is completed road repairs will need to be made to both Greenhills Road and Young Street, which means continued detours for residents. How much longer is the Hwy 80 bridge going to take?

Feedback: Patience should have already expired

    To ColumbiaMagazine.com:
    re: East 80 Bridge
The deadline is not going to be met. There simply isn't enough activity or concern. There has been no one held accountable for this constructiontimeline. Patience should have already expired. Safety should not be a factor; the engineering process should have voided this issue months ago.

Program is having impact on safety awareness

By Rick Wilson, Adair County Coroner

We are continuing the Helmets For Kids program this year.

This project has been one of the most rewarding programs that I have been involved with because I feel it has made an impact in safety awareness.

Last year we give away 156 helmets. We still have funds to purchase helmets, so if a child in Adair County under 18 wants an ATV or motorcycle helmet, just give me a call at (270) 378-1490 for an application.
