Construction is underway on new 10 place hangar

Columbia-Adair County Airport takes giant step toward keeping pace with progress in other sectors of the county. The next challenge is to extend the length of the runway to 5,000-plus feet

Construction has begun on a new 10 place hanger for the Columbia-Adair County Airport. This is a major achievement, and it is due to a group of dedicated airport activists led by Chairman John Rarey.

With this inadequacy overcome, the airport can now address the major limitation of the C-AC airport, runway length.

Mary Keltner sent a link to an remarkable story, "The Greening of Greensburg," about the plans to rebuild a tornado devastated town in western Kansas as a "green" town, with electricity furnished by the wind supplimented by solar.

She sent the link with a note, "I wish it were happening in Adair County."

Obituary: Bernice Dunbar, 86, member Trinity UMC

Mrs. Dunbar was a member of a respected Columbia family and was a retired toll attendant with the Kentucky Department of Transportation

Bernice Dunbar, 86, 311 Harvey Street, Columbia, KY, passed away Saturday, April 5, 20008, at 10:45pmCT, at Westlake Regional Hospital, Columbia, KY, after an illness.

The funeral service will be Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at 10:30amCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, with Rev. William R. Davenport the officiating clergy. Interment will be in Havey Hill Cemetery.

    As I heard of the death of Margaret Truman at 83 back in January, there flashed across the screen of memory a day in late April 1945. A group of us fledgling scholars were sitting about the tables in Miss Lafferty's first grade class -- upstairs in the Horse Cave school house, the room to the left of the water fountain.
