Bob Barnes: Winter does not count against contractor's time

LETTERS and FEEDBACK

Ed,:

If my memory is correct the contractor had 90 days to complete the construction of the new bridge. However, the state does not include any days during the months of December, January or Feburary. The state does not feel that there are enough favorable working condition days during these months.

Bridge situation hits E80 travelers in pocket, too

LETTERS and FEEDBACK

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Any info on the completion of the E80 Bridge would be great. Not only does it add time to any commute into town. it also hits all E80 travelers in the pocket with gas well above $3.00 a gallon. Green Hills has become quite dangerous as well. There seems to be weekly traffic accidents there and I've had some close calls myself. I think the local government should give the public an update on the situation. Our tax dollars are paying for the work, or lack there of. We deserve an answer..

Feedback on Scenic Adair County In Visible Differences

LETTERS and FEEDBACK

To Pen at ColumbiaMagazine.com:

This is one of my favorite spots. If you drive the opposite way, towards 55, the view is spectacular. The grass is strikingly green, and with the pastures all outlined by wooden fence, it reminds me of rural England. Much like a scene out of James Herriot's All Creatures Great and Small series.

s/Heather Evans
Thanks. "A drive in the opposite direction is coming soon -CM

Comments on Construction of the Highway E 80 bridge

To the editor, ColumbiaMagazine.com:

The progress...or lack of...should be a total embarrasment to all involved. The contractor should either be defended or held accountable for the lackof effort or concern.

Tom Chaney, Jan. 5, 2008: Horse Cave, KY's artist Joe Downing

Joe Downing in Paris

With one photo
By Tom Chaney
Joseph Dudley Downing, Horse Cave native and expatriate artist, died at his home in Mnerbes, France, Saturday, December 29. He had lived and worked in France since 1950, returning only for brief visits which often included shows of his work.

In March of 1991 my cousin Andy invited me to come to Paris. In the swirl of my three days there I called Joe Downing to pay my respects and to bring him greetings from Horse Cave albeit via another expatriate then living in exile in Philadelphia.

Highway 80 Bridge: Does anyone know latest?

LETTERS and FEEDBACK

Ed:

I have been hearing talk that the new bridge on HWY 80, which was first scheduled to open by January 08, has now been moved out to April 08, and also have heard that all construction has now stopped due to state budget issues.

Would there be any way that you could find out if any of these are facts, and where do we need to address our issues if they are true.

Thank you
Phillip Dunbar
Thanks. Everyone is asking about progress on the bridge. It would sound unthinkable for that project to have any delays. Right now having the bridge there may be the biggest road problem, and safety concern in the county. The situation is really causing hardships.

COF: On Egypt and Points Beyond

LETTERS and FEEDBACK

To ColumbiaMagazine.com

Guess you'd just have to live here to understand.Because of our ways, God speaks to us all the time; just like the recalcitrant child who gets all the attention!

So far though, his counsel doesn't seem to have had much effect. Either that or folks up this way are scared that if they were to change their ways too much, maybe God wouldn't keep trying to bribe them to be better!
