Feedback: Parent wants to know if fundraiser needed for CWC LETTERS and FEEDBACK Ed, I am the parent that took a space heater to my child's preschool classroom yesterday (January 2, 2008). I also sent in extra blankets for the little ones for class today. I am very concerned about the heat situation. I don't care to help out, but I spend a hefty chunk of my income on school taxes through property taxes. I send in extra supplies at the beginning of the year (not because I have a lot of money. I definitely don't, but because there are some that don't have any). Gas Price Drumbeat: Anger over gas price grows To ColumbiaMagazine.com: I was wondering why gas prices shot up in Columbia to 3.15 a gallon? On Thursday noon it was 2.99 and at 4:30pmCT, it was 3.15 with one place being 3.14. It seems something is wrong, when you can go to Campbellsville and gas is 31 cents cheaper on the gallon. Kroger gas was 2.95 and Wal-mart was 2.88 and other stations were cheaper, also. If you have a Kroger card or a Wal-mart card it would be an additional 3 cents off those prices. I do a lot of shopping in C-ville and since I was there today I filled my car up. I hardly ever buy gas in Columbia because you can get it cheaper in Russell, Edmonton or Taylor County. It seems to me as soon as T.V puts it on the news oil prices is up,watch out. Gas goes up in Columbia. s/Sharon Wheeler 2008-01-04 21:51:26 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Letters and Reader Feedback
Egyptian modestly asks: How much closer could we be to heaven? To ColumbiaMagazine.com: I enjoy reading letters from the Knifley area and also those from Jaybird Ridge sharing their pride about where they live. I know many of the residents from both areas and they certainly have reasons to boast of their communities. But there is another place in Adair County that is a Very Prestigious place to live. We Egyptians live in Egypt and are so close to Jericho and Mt. Carmel, now can any of you get any closer to heaven than that? s/George Rice It is a very fine point you make. The question you ask would take the wisdom of a Ralph Hurt, a Billy Neat, or a Pete Walker to answer. Alas, they are no longer here. -EW Related: 1) From Knifley and 2) From Jaybird Ridge 2008-01-04 21:17:20 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Letters and Reader Feedback

Principal says only 1 room extremely cold at CWC today Principal Patty Jones said that as of Friday, January 4, 2008, only one classroom at Colonel William Casey was extremely cold, and a couple were on the cool side. She wrote, "Those classes are being relocated when the temperatures are unacceptable," and added, "All other rooms averaged 65 degrees or above." But she noted that the HVAC in place at Col. Casey has problems under optimum conditions. "Again, even when working at full capacity, our heating and cooling systems struggle to maintain the building," she said. Repairs are expected soon. "It is my understanding that the repairs will be made next week. Hopefully the weather will improve until things are back up and going full force." 2008-01-04 19:43:29 | Comments | Printable version

CWC heating and cooling problem needs attention now LETTERS and FEEDBACK To ColumbiaMagazine.com: Thanks for getting the letter from principal Patty Jones. That lettershould help the state to realize that we have a heating and cooling problemthat needs fixing now, rather than 3-4 years down the road. One of the teachers stated the temperature inside the classroom at48 degrees and another at 56 degrees. The teachers are afraid of losingtheir jobs so you may have a hard time getting information in writing fromthem. s/Kevin Kessler 2008-01-04 18:40:00 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Letters and Reader Feedback
To: Anonymous Concerned Parent sending unsigned letters to CM LETTERS and FEEDBACK From ColumbiaMagazine.com Thanks for sending your, second, duplicate letter concerning the heat situation at Colonel William Casey School. We appreciate and respect your point of view, and your interesting, rational approach to school issues. However, the letter will not be printed without complete contact information, if is printed at all. Occasionally, letters will be printed with the name of the sender withheld, but if it is of a controversial nature (yours calls for an action which would likely create a controversy) it would only be posted on ColumbiaMagazine.com if signed. Your interest in improvements in Adair County Schools is certainly a welcome signal that more and more people do want to join in what appears to be a movement to help. I hope you are taking part in your school's PTA, attend as many school board meetings as possible, and are active in school board elections. And, with the legislature in session, I hope you will write to our State Senators and Representatives about improving funding for Adair County Schools. The Adair County School District cannot provide the facilities without adequate financial support. -Ed Waggener 2008-01-04 18:20:18 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Letters and Reader Feedback

Willis sends conciliatory note from Jaybird, KY, to ruffled COF LETTERS and FEEDBACK Ed, Although it was never the intention of this Jaybirdette to ruffle any feathers, I must admit the hoodwinking article brought a smile to my face.
