Overcorrection cited as cause of injury crash in Casey

Both the driver and a passenger were treated and released at Casey County Hospital following a one-vehicle crash three miles east of Liberty on KY 70.

Knifley area sweeps home Christmas decoration contest

It was a greater Knifley area sweep of the 2007 Christmas in Columbia home decorations awards, with the winner of the exterior prize going to Garnetia Knifley residence at 275 J. Knifley Road, and the interior prize being awarded to the Keith Livermores, on Union Church Road.

Business winners were Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street for best exterior decorations, and Harris & Harris and Gail Williams Law Offices, Downtown on the Square, Columbia, for window decorations.

Sheila Hare, chair of the 2007 contest, said that the residence winners will receive $100 prizes and plaques and the business winners will receive plaques, all to be presented Monday morning, at a to be announced event in Columbia. Besides the winners and Chairperson Hare, C-AC Chamber

Obituary: Lola Antle, 82, dies in Burkesville

Lola Antle, 82, of Albany, Kentucky died Friday, December 14, 2007, at the Cumberland County Hospital, Burkesville, KY, following an illness.

The funeral will be at Monday, December 17, 2007, at 10:00am, at Talbott Funeral Home, 1106 Cross Street, Albany, KY. Visitation will be on Sunday, December 16, 2007, at Talbott Funeral Home after 3:00pm.

Lindsey Wilson College's 2007 winter graduates and newly inaugurated Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear have one thing in common: they are both "Heroes of the Second Chance."

That's what Kentucky Hall of Fame journalist Al Smith said in his address to the college's 86th commencement class, delivered Saturday morning to a crowd of more than 1,500 guests in Biggers Sports Center.

Many thanks to Ann Curtis for the information in regards to the oldColumbia ChristianChurch.

When I made the picture of the current Presbyterian Church and the bricked up windows, I noticed the difference in the glass arch, above the doors, but disregarded it as another replacement that had been done over time.

Youngster missing overnight found at 5:00am this morning

Successful search in Knifley area for young Casey teen involves Adair County Sheriffs and KSP along with host of local volunteers and units from Adair and three other counties

At 5:00am, this morning, Saturday, December 15 a 13-year-old boy, reported missing last night at 9:30pmCT, was located with his 4 wheeler at a house on Knifley Road.

An all night search was needed to find the boy. Adair County Sheriff's Department, Kentucky State Police, local volunteers, the Adair County Search and Rescue Team; Green, Taylor, and Marion County Rescues, Knifley and Breeding Fire Departments, wee involved in the successful mission.

"It just goes to show how great a community can come together and work so well in a time of need," Adair County Sheriff Ralph Curry said.

New solution possible: History Mystery, Earl Conover & Church

Ann Curtis has found evidence that a previous identification of an old church may not have been right. Two Columbia Churches had similar entrances. What was identified as the Presbyterian Church may have been the Columbia Christian Church, she thinks.

KY Historical Society sets marker application deadlines

Only 30 will be approved statewide in 2008; in 2007, two markers were erected in Adair County

The Kentucky Historical Society announced today, Saturday, December 15, that applications for the Kentucky Historical Highway Marker program are currently being accepted. The application deadlines for 2008 are April 1 and October 1, 2007.

With the addition of two historical markers in Columbia on November 3, 2007, one at the Columbia-Union Presbyterian Church and one on Guardian Street for the Columbia M&F high school, Adair now has 10 historical markers, a good start on acknowledging the rich history of the county.

Lindsey Wilson Commencement with Al Smith as speaker
Lindsey Wilson College will graduate the first half of the Class of 2007-08 on Saturday morning. The college will award a total of 247 degrees - 176 undergraduate degrees and 71 graduate degrees. The commencement address will be given by Hall of Fame journalist Al Smith, the former host of Kentucky Educational Television's Comment on Kentucky. Adair County Little League Basketball Games Cancelled
League returns to regular schedule next week
All Adair County Little League Basketball games, for all ages, scheduled for Saturday, December 15, have been cancelled due to a scheduling conflict. The Adair County Middle School will offer "2007 Who Wants to Be a Star Ultimate Talent Search," on Saturday, December 15, 2007, at 7:00pm. Twenty top entertainers will compete for $500 in prizes and trophies. Admission is $6:00 advance, $7.00 at the door.
