Columbia Baptist Church wins major float prize

Parade Under the Lights drew most entrants, biggest crowds, ever.

First Place in the Christmas in Columbia 2007 Adair County Float contest was Columbia Baptist Church.

Christmas in Columbia 2007 Chairman Dave Johnston and Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce President Darrell Overstreet presented a trophy and a check for $400 to Keena Grant representing the Columbia Baptist Church. The parade entrants were judged along the parade route.

State accepting grant applications for crumb rubber use

Promoting the use of recycled tires in creative ways

The Environmental and Public Protection Cabinet is accepting grant proposals for projects that promote the use of recycled waste tires for athletic fields, playgrounds and other crumb rubber or mulch applications.

To a limited degree, the cabinet will consider funding research and development proposals for experimental practices or technologies.

Yates drills in well with great promise on Burris farm near Bliss

There's another promising strike on the Danny and Debbie Burris farm at their farm located near Bliss on the south side of the Louie B. Nunn Parkway at milemarker 44, but accessed from the Jones Chapel Road on Willie Nell Road.

The well was drilled in 10 feet into the Murfreesboro on Saturday, December 1, 2007, at around 1:30pmCT by Don Yates Drilling Company on a lease owned by American Oil & Gas of Lexington, KY. Adair Food Pantry announces special holiday schedule

During the Christmas and New Year season, the Adair County Food Pantry announces the following dates on which it will be open:

Tuesdays December 4, 11, 18, 2007; Thursday, December 20, 2007, and Wednesday, January 2, 2008. The hours are 9:00amCT until noonCT.

After the holiday season the pantry will return to normal working hours.

The Adair County Food Pantry is now located behind the Prescription Shoppe and across from MLS Medical Supply on Office Park Drive.

Five LWC soccer women win All-American honors

Five Lindsey Wilson College womens soccer players received national honors over the weekend as the NAIA announced their 2007 Womens Soccer All-Americans.

Lindsey Wilson sophomore midfielder Omolyn Davis was selected First-Team All-American, sophomore defender Yolanda Hamilton selected to the second-team, freshman midfielder Caitlin Burke to the third-team and sophomore goalkeeper Carrie Revlett and freshman forward Kimmia Parker were named Honorable Mention All-American.

Portrait of Gov. Fletcher to be unveiled at history center

Governor Ernie Fletcher's official portrait will be unveiled and added to the Kentucky Historical Society's Toyota Kentucky Hall of Governors exhibition this afternoon, Monday, December 3, 2007 at the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History in downtown Frankfort.

The event will begin at 5:00ET/4:00pmCT, with refreshments and is open to the public. The program begins at 5:30ET/4:30pmCT.

Trial of Trooper Burton gets underway this morning in Liberty

The trial of Kentucky State Police Trooper Bramlett J. Burton will get underway in Liberty, KY, this morning at 9:00amET/8:00amCT, with Adair/Casey Circuit Judge James G. Weddle presiding.

Trooper Burton is charged with reckless homicide in the death of Billy J. Phillips, Columbia painting contractor, following an incident at Adair County Regional Jail on Friday, June 1, 2007.

Most of all thanks for all the prayers that have been spoken for me

Words cannot express my heartfelt gratitude for all the prayers, offerings of help, calls, financial support, and patience of the residents in District 4 and Adair County. Gradually I am regaining my strength, with the help of two trips per day to Greensburg for an IV injection of fluids.

Once again I am ready to be your humble servant, if you have any problems please feel free to call me, day or night, at the numbers listed below.
