Obituary: Inis E. Smith, 82, retired Fairplay merchant

She was the matriarch of a large, respected family, and a retired merchant who operated Smith's Grocery at Fairplay, KY. She was a member of Hadley's Community Church and a homemaker

Inis E. Smith, 82, Fairplay Community, 130 Gilbert Smith Road, Columbia, KY, passed away Friday, November 30, 2007, at 5:42pmCT, at the Commonwealth Regional Specialty Hospital in Bowling Green, KY, after several months illness.

The funeral service will be Monday, December 3, 2007, at 1:00pmCT at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with Bro. Elbert Hadley and Bro. Clifton Bennett officiating. Interment will be in Haven Hill Cemetery.

Columbians enjoy annual Christmas dinner at CU



2007-12-01 .
MARY FRANCES MAY, EMILY SARGENT, SARAH JEAN COOP and WANDA HILL stopped in front of the Christmas tree to visit with friends before the annual Christmas dinner at Campbellsville University's Winters Dining Hall Friday evening. Mrs. May serves as a member of the board of trustees of the hundred-year-old Baptist school. Mrs. Sargent represents Walker Real Estate, Mrs. Coop is a retired Adair County school teacher and Mrs. Hill is chair of the Bank of Columbia. Rotary Club 2007 Christmas in Columbia Breakfast a success

A roster of those involved in the traditional Christmas in Columbia below

Diners arrived early for the annual event, an all you care to eat breakfast of sausage and scrambled eggs, hot coffee and orange juices, and those hot biscuits with sawmill gravy or butter, jelly, syrup, or sorghum molasses, all for $5.00.

The hall for the breakfast feast was in the Columbia Baptist Church Annex. For as long as there has been a Christmas in Columbia, the Rotary Club Breakfast has been the first choice of festival goers as a staging area and strategizing the day's forays.

Reports in Downtown Columbia were that the Rotary Club, for one of the first times in the history of the breakfast, had no left-over food.

KSP makes arrests in 2005 Bethelridge robbery case

Arrests come two years after crimes committed
Detective Kevin Atwood of Kentucky State Police 15, Columbia, KY, arrested two men in connection with the 2005 robbery of Omra Wesley in the Bethelridge area of Casey County.

The arrests came last night, Friday, November 30, 2007, at 7:17pm. The two men, Travis Goodin and Ariel Goodin, were arrested after a lengthy investigation by Detective Atwood, Casey County Sheriff Jerry Coffman, and Kentuckky State Police Drug Force Officers Dennis Allen and Danny Burton.

Christmas in Columbia starts today with Rotary Breakfast

It's here today! The Christmas Season officially starts today and tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday, December 1 and 2, 2007, in Columbia, Adair County, Kentucky.

The theme of the 17th Annual Christmas in Columbia Celebrations this year will be "A Golden Christmas," celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce. Christmas in Columbia will cover two days, Saturday, December 1, 2007, and Sunday, December 2, 2007.

The highlight of the celebration will be the Parade Under the Lights, which is scheduled for 6:00pm Saturday evening, December 1, 2007. The rain date is is December 8, 2007. Prize money for the parade entries totals $1,825, with the top float prize being $400.

Come join us for the annual Adair County Christmas Parade this Saturday, December 1, 2007. Its great fun for everyone! (and you probably need the exercise!) (Im sure your chops are in great shape and you still remember the music and the flag work to Christmas on Parade)The parade starts at 6:00pm. "Virgil's Christmas" to be performed at Star Theater
"Virgil's Christmas" is coming to the Star Theater, Main Street, Russell Springs, KY. It will be performed Saturday, December 1; Sunday, December 2; Satuday, December 8 and Sunday December 9, 2007, with Saturday shows beginning at 7:00pmCT and Sunday matinee at 2:00pmCT. Tickets are $7 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under and can be purchased at the door.
