Gregory Allen Whitson, 53, 523 Fairview Road, Russell Springs, KY, passed away at his home Saturday, November 24, 2007, at his home, after an illness.

Helmet ready for POW/MIA Parade Cycle

JOE HARE WROTE: "I found a helmet that was near the outline of the Steel Pots we wore in Vietnam and had the jungle pattern painted by PJ's Cycle here in Columbia. I have a set of Jungle Fatigues and Jungle Boots and in the process of building flag mounts for the American and POW/MIA flags." Daniel Marion Grider family Thanksgiving dinner

Members and friends of the Daniel Marion Grider family celebrated Thanksgiving Day in the home of Mrs. Richard Mercer of Louisville. Mrs. Mercer was the hostess of the elegant dinner party. In attendance were: Mrs. Stella Cross of Louisville, Mr. and Mrs. Gerhard Lepiarczyk of Louisville, Mr. Erwin Lepiarczyk of Adair County, Mrs. Mercer, Mr. David Lepiarczyk of Louisville, Miss Megan Mercer of Louisville, Mr. Kazimierz Rusek of Adair County, Dr. Norman Cohen of Louisville, and Mr. Edward Drane of Louisville.

Green now leads Adair in 2007 deer hunt count

Green County deer hunters have now posted the most deer taken in 2007. Adair County's 716-714 lead Thanksgiving was short lived. This morning, at 8:21amCT, today, Saturday, November 24, 2007, Telecheck results at the Kentucky Fish & Wildlife website revealed the following state of affairs in the 2007 Great Adair County Deer Hunting Area (GACDHA) :

    Driver injured in head-on collision Friday afternoon

    A two vehicle head-on collision yesterday afternoon, Friday, November 23, 2007 at 4:20pmCT on Old Caven Road, six miles west of Greensburg, KY, collision resulted in injury to one of the drivers.

    Christopher Williams, 25, Greensburg, KY, was northbound on Old Caven Road in a 1993 Mazda when he failed to negotiate a curve and struck a 1996 Ford, operated by Dennis Hedgepeth, 47, Greensburg, KY, head-on.

    Judge Executive Ann Melton and the Adair County Fiscal Court will be sponsoring two free leaf drop-offs in November, 2007. The first is Saturday, November 10, 2007, from 8:00am-12noonCT. The second is Saturday, November 24, 2007, from 8:00am-12noonCT. The drop-off location is the Adair County Recycling Center, 62 Service Road, Columbia, KY, 42728. According to the CJE's office, leaves need to be bagged in heavy trash bags, and, it was stressed, the leaves should only be left on the two Saturdays and the times as listed above. If anyone would like to have bags of leaves for their gardens or flowers," the announcement from the CJE's office said, "they should feel free to pick them up at the Recycling Center.     Benefit for Perry Reeder
    There will be a benefit auction for Perry Reeder at the Breeding Fire Department at 4:00pm on Saturday, November 24, 2007. The benefit will include a chili supper starting at 4:00pmCT, singing by Living by Faith Gospel Group, and an auction to start at 6:00pmCT. Reeder, the Magistrate in District 4 of Adair County, has been hospitalized for more than a month now. All donations will be greatly appreciated and will go toward medical bills. Breeding Fire Department is located off Highway 61 South 13 miles south of Columbia, KY, in the Breeding community.     Salvation Army Christmas Kettle at Columbia Wal-Mart
    The Adair Unit of the Salvation Army Christmas Kettles, red and blue, will be located outside IGA on Wednesday, November 21, 2007, and outside Wal-Mart each Friday and Saturday beginning November 23, and ending December 22, 2007.
