Adair School District Board Report, Nov. 15, 2007 meeting

  • Drop out rate rises for first time in three years; and attendance is down
  • Finance officer Renae Smith gets praise as District gets good audit
  • Architect candidates invited to duke it out in 4-way presentations
  • Enrollment policy gets second reading, unananimous approval
By Ed Waggener

Saying he'd hoped it had been a mistake, Adair County School Superintendent Darrell Treece made public information he had received three weeks ago: SEEK (Support Educational Excellence in Kentucky) funding from the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) was cut by $920,402.

The superintendent described the news as a "Major shock." He said that the District was aware that there might be a need to readjust the 2006-2007 budget because of differences between the district's attendance accounting and the way the state calculates attendance, but had never expected the cut to be so drastic.
