Jimmy O. Bell, 50, member, Pickett's Chapel UMC

Mr. Bell will be buried in Bethelehem Cemetery in Green County. The Adair County Rescue Squad will serve as pallbearers.

Mr. Jimmy O. Bell, Greensburg, KY, the son of Herbie Bell of Jamestown, KY, and the late Bessie Conners Bell, was born on Friday, March 1, 1957, in Jamestown, KY, and departed this life on Sunday, November 11, 2007, at the Jane Todd Crawford Hospital, Greensburg, KY.

The funeral services for Mr. Jimmy O. Bell will be conducted at 1:00pmCT, Wednesday, November 14, 2007, at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home, Greensburg, KY.

2007 Wal-Mart Veterans Day: Mr.and Mrs. Gerald Shepherd

Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Shepherd from the Eunice Community attended the Veterans Day Breakfast and Program. Mr. Shepherd served in the US Navy in the Korean War. The Shepherd were also on hand to hear Rev. Joe Payne, pastor of the Eunice Church of God, deliver a brief but moving oration on "Honor and Commitment."

Obituary: Joan Blades, 74, formerly of Sparksville community

She was a member of a well-known Sparksville family, a homemaker, and attended the Sparksville Church of the Nazarene.

Joan Blades, 1083 Lee Street, Columbia, KY, formerly of the Sparksville Community, passed away Monday, November 12, 2007, at 2:44pmCT at the Westlake Regional Hospital Emergency Room.

The funeral service will be Thursday, November 15, 2007, at 11:00amCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Lonny Karnes officiating. Interment will be in the Sparksville Baptist Church Cemetery.

Marie Burton, 76, 1460 E. Hwy. 768 Glensfork, KY, passed away Monday, November 12, 2007 at Rosewood Health Care in Bowling Green, KY after an illness.

A graveside service will be Thursday, November 15, 2007, at 10:00amCT at Bearwallow Cemetery with Bro. Stanley Watson the officiating clergy. Interment will follow the service in Bearwallow Cemetery. Visitation after 8:30amCT, Thursday morning, November 15, 2007, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY.

Help needed, information on the death of Breeding man in 1933

I am looking for an article on the death of Clifton Wright Scott in the Breeding Community who died April 3, 1933. His death certificate says that he died of a gunshot wound. I'm looking for an article on the death or any information.

Were you in Olympic Village in Rome when Japan surrendered?

Veteran George T. Keltner remembers where he was when they called off the War, and he'd like to know if any other Adair Countians were there the same day.

"I was in the Olympic Village in Rome, Italy, when it was announced that the Japanese had surrendered," he said before the Veterans Day program began at Wal-Mart this morning.

KY SAFE Patrol offers free Parkway (LBN included) Assistance

Recently, I found out from an officer from the KY SAFE Patrol that we have a free roadside service for highways, parkways, and interstates in KYThey are funded by our taxes. They will change your tire, help with battery, or anything needed for an emergency.

Deer harvest in Adair County jumps to 373

Special ColumbiaMagazine.com report

The number of deer harvested in Adair County, as of November 12, 2007, has jumped to 373.

The breakdown, according to figures at the Kentucky Fish & Wildlife KY Deer Harvest Results at 4:04amCT, on Tuesday, November 13, 2007, was 195 Male, 178, female, with 275 taken with fireamrs, 53 with archery; 7 crossbow, and 38 muzzleloader.

The total harvest in Adair County in all of 2006 was 1,001 deer.

Census notes: Columbia has fewer families in poverty

It's closer to the 2009 census than it is to 1999, but the numbers for families living in poverty in Columbia and surrounding cities are of interest.

Campbellsville was best, with the lowest number of families below the poverty line, but Columbia's numbers were very low compared to other communities:
  1. Campbellsville, 502 familes, 18.7%
  2. Columbia, 167 families, 19.9%
  3. Greensburg, 136, 21.3%
  4. Russell Springs, 149 families, 21.8%
  5. Burkesville, 111 families, 23.8%
  6. Liberty, 124 families, 24.9%
  7. Jamestown, 111 families, 25.4.8%
  8. Edmonton, 122 families, 29.00%
The figures are derived from the Kentucky Data Center city profile charts based on American Community Surveys from the U.S. Census Bureau.
