Gas Price Drumbeat: Urges buying elsewhere

To the editor, ColumbiaMagazine.com:

With our local gas companies (charging too much), why don't we send them all a message by (not) buying gas here! I drive a truck all across the Midwest and notice that gas prices in Columbia rival gas prices in our major cities. Most gas stations that are out of a major metropolitan area are usually much lower, except in Columbia. So, let's (. . . ) let our local gas stations know that unity is a powerful voice!

Gas Price Drumbeat: He's buying out of town

It seems to me the solution to the problem would be for everyone to purchase their gas anywhere but Columbia. I have done that for the last 12 years. It is no secret that prices are higher in Columbia than else where and have been for as long as I can remember. You won't have to figure out who the jobbers are or anything else once you stop purchasing gas in Columbia because you will then see the prices drop and get more in line with the surrounding counties. I think it is nothing more than the greed factor.

Mostly, coarse material correct for UK curriculum

To the edifyer, ColumbiaMagazine.com

Thanks for posting and correcting coarse material. However, if you ever attended any of the sessions you know that course material only applies when young coeds are present.

Coarse is the operative adjective in all other instances and the time honored tradition of all country store universities throughout the area.

Hawk Identification: Cooper's or Red-Tailed?

Posted By: Pen Waggener

Bigger pictures might make identification a little easier. I posted a shot that I thought best showcased the handsome bird, but the crop didn't include his tail, and hawks are generally tough to distinguish when perched, anyway. Two more photos show front and back views including his tail.

COF comments on Knifley, higher ed, and local beauty

To the editor, ColumbiaMagazine.com

Now you know why we don't have a Knifley Beauty Pageant. As these fine representatives demonstrate - we don't need any contest or Judges to affirm that our young ladies are indeed the fairest in the land.

As for the University of Knifley, the course material stands our younguns in good stead for facing the rough terrain of the "modern" world.
