Gov. Fletcher bus stop in Columbia: Bill Ballou

2007-10-27 - Downtown Columbia, KY - Photo By Ed Waggener.
MANY MAY NOT REMEMBER when his wife, Jackie Ballou, ran the Circuit Court Clerk's office, but no one living in that time will forget when he hung up his guns, took off his Adair County Sheriff's badge and stepped in to take over as Circuit Court Clerk when the late Frank Nell resigned. It's still easy to mistake Bill Ballou's Adair Cattleman's Association Cap for that of an Army Colonel or a lawmen, but now he's living the quiet life of a Bull Run Road Rancher, coming to town less frequently, but coming yesterday to show support for Governor Fletcher.

Annual School Bus Driver breakfast draws 165

A tradition: It's the Adair County equivalent of the Governor's Kentucky Derby Breakfast
With photos, bus driver roster, link

By Ed Waggener

The annual School Bus Driver & Monitor appreciation breakfast drew 165 people yesterday morning, Friday, October 26, at the J.T. Coomer School Bus Garage on Adair County School District Campus on Greensburg Street.

The event is the high point of National School Bus Safety Week, an observance sponsored by the National School Transportation Association. In Adair County, what started out by the late Transportion Director J.T. Coomer as a country ham biscuit with coffee snack has grown through the tenure of Greg Bardin and now, with David Jones as director, into the Adair County equivalent of the Governor's Derby Breakfast.

Feedback: Fred Flintstone Wall expesses character

To the editor, CM:

I really like this wall because it expresses a lot of character. It adds to Columbia's landscape, and it reminds me of an entrance to a state park. I wish more of us shared Sherman's creativity. Who would ever guess what's behind the wall? Very cool! Way to go Sherman!
