By Chris WellsLindsey Wilson College women's soccer goalkeeper Carrie Revlett has been named NAIA Region XI and Mid-South Conference Defensive Player of the Week, according to the NAIA and the MSC.

Sophomore midfielder Omolyn Davis earns MSC Offensive Player of the Week to help the Blue Raiders sweep this week's conference awards.

LWC 14th Safe Halloween: Spiderman and Venom scare everyone

SPIDER-MAN and VENOM both turned out to collect candy, and a duel didn't even break out between the two Marvel Comics rivals. In reality, the two were Gadberry boys of Columbia: 6-year-old Kodie was Spider-Man and 9-year-old Hunter was Venom. At right is their grandmother, Ann Murphy. The boys were also accompanied by their mother, Betty (obscured in the background). Tuesday was Kodies first Safe Halloween and Hunters fifth.

Governor orders fees waived on hay, ag relief supplies

Gov. Fletcher Signs executive order to expedite delivery of hay, other relief supplies

In a further action to help farmers survive Kentucky's exceptional drought conditions, Governor Ernie Fletcher has issued an executive order directing the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to waive all fees normally associated with intrastate and interstate transportation of agricultural relief supplies. The order will help put the delivery of hay and other vital supplies on a fast track to the state's livestock producers.

LWC freshman Jakob Rittig offensive Player of the Week

Lindsey Wilson College freshman forward Jakob Rittig has been selected as the NAIA Region XI and Mid-South Conference Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending October 21, according to the NAIA and the Mid-South Conference.

Rittig, an Arhuss, Denmark, native, scored three goals in a pair of wins to help the Blue Raiders improve to 15-1-0 on the season.

Over 250 at 14th Annual Safe Halloween

More than 250 area children and their family members braved the rains Tuesday night to collect bundles of candy at Lindsey Wilson College's 14th-annual "Safe Halloween."

Children and their family members tricked-or-treated through Phillips Hall, Horton Complex, Henry and Mary Ellen Lilly Hall and Richardson Hall, all of which were decorated in Halloween themes that ranged from children's stories to horror movies.

LWC Womens Basketball faces WKU, Nov. 4

A road game in November is usually just a game with little to no significance. But for the Lindsey Wilson College women's basketball team, on November 4, a trip an hour westward is anything but just a road trip.

Lindsey Wilson travels to Bowling Green for an exhibition game with NCAA Division I Western Kentucky University at E.A. Diddle Arena.

The Adair County Road Department has the following maintenance schedule today, Wednesday, October 24, 2004:
  • Putting shoulders on the Brock Burris in District 4 today.
  • Removing a tree on the L Smith Road in District 4
  • Working at the County Highway Department, changing oil and servicing the road equipment.

Ruling on change of venue will have to wait

Phillips' family objects to moving trial from Columbia; Judge Weddle sets election day hearing

A ruling on attorney Steve Schroering's petition to have the reckless homicide trial of Kentucky State Police Trooper Bramlett (BJ) Burton from Columbia will have to wait until a evidentiary hearing at 9:00amCT, Tuesday, November 6, 2007, which is also election day, as Judge Weddle reminded the attorneys before setting the special hearing.

Trooper Burton has been charged with reckless homicide in the death of Billy Phillips on July 4, 2007, following injuries sustained at Adair County Regional Jail a few days earlier.

Columbia Utilities meeting re-scheduled again

The Columbia Utilities Commission did not have a quorum for a an October meeting which had been rescheduled for Tuesday, October 23, 2007.

Commission Chairman Robert Flowers said that, because of illness, the necessary three-members were not present. "We'll try again on Thursday," he said.

The re-scheduled meeting now set for Thursday, October 25, 2007, at 11:30amCT, in the CUC board room, City Hall, 116 Campbellsville ST, Columbia, KY. Members are: Chairman Robert Flowers and James F. Harper. Dr. Ron Rogers, Councillor June Parson, and David Wells.

On Thursday, October 11, the Casey Center of Somerset Community College opened its doors to the Kentucky State Police (KSP), who will be using the Casey Center as a field office.

In a small ceremony opening the Casey Center International Festival, Judy Sapp, Director of the Center, presented keys to the facility to Detective George Atwood and Trooper Mike Woodrum. Keys were also given to Major Mike Sapp and Trooper Wendell Higginbottom, all attached to officers from Post 15, Columbia, KY.

C-AC Chamber will participate in clean-up, Tues, Oct. 30, 2007

The Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce will participate in the annual fall PRIDE cleanup, Tuesday, October 30, 2007 at 4:00pmCT, according to Benton Fudge, chairman of the Beautification Committee.

Bids on Justice Center high for now, but building still on track

ColumbiaMagazine.com storyBids for the the construction of the new 35,000 s.f. Adair County justice Center came in some $800,000 over budget, but officials think that negotiations will trim the package enough to keep the construction of the facility at Campbellsville & Merchant Street on track.

The bids were opened under the supervision of the project's construction manager, Branscum Construction of Russell Springs, at 1:00pm at a packed Adair County Annex basemement assemby room yesterday, Tuesday, October 23, 2007.

My wife and I live in Florida. We have purchased property in the Breeding area are are very excited. Our plans are to retire and move to Breeding.

Susan Patterson to 60 miles to fight breast cancer

Benefit will take place over three-day period in early November

Lindsey Wilson College instructor Susan Patterson almost took the easy way out of helping to fight cancer.

When a colleague solicited Patterson for a donation to support a three-day walk to raise money to fight breast cancer, Patterson decided instead to put her feet where her checkbook is and join the walk for a cure.

Margaret Huddleston found guilty of terroristic threatening

Margaret Huddleston was found guilty of terroristic threatening, third degree, in jury trial in Adair District Court on Monday, October 22, 2007.

She was fined $500.

Ms. Huddleston is the daughter of Wellie Paul Grant, the man who is charged with the June 10, 2006 murder of Columbia businessman Rex Coffey on the grounds of Beech Grove Separate Baptist Church on KY 900 three miles from Glens Fork, KY.

Community Crusade: If We are the Body
The Adair County Ministerial Association is sponsoring a community wide crusade Sunday night, October 21, through Wednesday night, October 24, 2007. Nine Churches are participating in this series of meetings. Tonight the service will be at the Columbia Christian Church, with Rev. Terry White preaching. Service times are 6:30pmCT nightly. Special music will be provide by the one of the nine churches and each pastor will preach or exhort at one of the services.
