NO LONGER AVAILABLE. Notified of adoptions November 2, 2007
THIS PAPILLON DOG is available for adoption at Green River Animal Shelter. He is about 1-2 years old. He was surrendered to us because the owner could no longer care for it. He has some hair loss due to fleas. He has had a flea bath, and should be more comfortable now. He will only be adopted out as a house dog, and we are not sure how he will be around children. Lebanon gets grant to build multi-purpose downtown pavilion

Governor Ernie Fletcher today announced a $150,000 Renaissance on Main grant to the city of Lebanon to fund the construction of a multi-purpose pavilion in Lebanon's downtown historic district.

"The plans for this pavilion show a true vision for economic development in downtown Lebanon," Governor Fletcher said. "Not only will the pavilion be a cornerstone for economic development, it will provide a setting for multiple events and activities that draw people downtown."

Walk-in flu clinic Oct. 17, 2007 at ACHD

A walk-in flu shot clinic will be held on Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at the Adair County Health Department at 801 Westlake Drive, Columbia, KY.

Clinic hours will be from 3:00pm to 6:00pmCT with no appointment needed.

Miss Kentucky 1978 recalls lifetime friendships made here

It was such a pleasure to hear about my niece, Miss Kentucky, Kaitlynne Postel's appearances in Adair County and then to read about her on ColumbiaMagazine.com. She enjoyed meeting the students, staff and faculty at all of the schools where she presented on behalf of the Kentucky Department of Agriculture's "No Ifs Ands Or Butts" campaign.

SSG Lannie L. Cockerham, Bronze Star recipient, added to list

Tracy Stotts sent this addition to the Veterans List: "In Memory: Staff Sergeant, Lannie H. Cockerham, was awarded a Bronze Star Medal for his work in developing the system used to keep track of military personnel during the Vietnam Era. (1948-2004)" and added, "Thanks for remembering!!!"

Rev. Bill Davenport evangelist at Milltown revival

There will be a fall revival at Milltown United Methodist Church beginning on Sunday night, October 21, 2007, running through, Wednesday night, October 24, 2007 begining at 6:30pm CT each evening.

The evangelist will be Rev. Bill Davenport a well known and outstanding minister from this area. There will also be special singing each evening. The pastor, Rev. Jadell Janes and the entire congregation invite everyone to attend.

Beshear, Mongiardo, at VFW Hall, Wed., Oct. 24, 2007

Steve Beshear, the Democratic candidate of Governor, and his running mate, Senator Dan Mongiardo, will be at the VFW Hall at the Fairgrounds on LIberty Road, Columbia, KY, at 8:30amCT, on Wednesday, October 24, 2007.

Beshear will be making a six-county swing through South Central Kentucky, starting at Taylor County, then on to Adair, Russell, Clinton, and Wayne before closing the day in Pulaski County at Somerset, according to Richard L. Walker, coordinator for the Beshear campaign in Adair County.

Feedback: Nighttime Square photo by Pen-Architecture 101

Hi Ed,

Check out the "Streamline Moderne" entry on Wikepedia, and you'll see an almost exact match for one of the Square buildings in Pen's nighttime photo. What I remember as the old Young's Rexall building closely resembles the photo in the Wikipedia entry describing this late art deco period.

There's an update on an airman currently in service, along with an addition to the list, from Shirley Holt, who wrote:"Could you please add that Brandon Branham is a TSgt. and he is at Hill AFB in Utah, and that he is now stationed at Hill AFB in Utah? Also, could you add the name of Mike Callison, who served in the Vietnam era, 1966-68.

Three from Adair County named Sen. Jeff Green Scholars

Matt Downen, Megan White, and Timothy Marr are all eligible for Kentucky Educational Excellence scholarships

Three 2007 graduates of Adair County High School have been named Sen. Jeff Green Scholars. Students earn this designation by achieving a 4.0 grade point average all four years of high school and scoring at least a 28 composite on the ACT.

As Sen. Jeff Green scholars, these students are eligible for $2,500 a year in Kentucky Educational Excellence Scholarship (KEES) awards. Students may receive up to $10,000 toward their college expenses if they continue to do well in school.

Now it's solved: The three Class A Bands (the smallest division) to win Regional Bands of America overall championships have been;1985 Marian Catholic, Chicago Heights, IL; (Year??) Northwestern Leigh PA, and 2007 Adair County High School, Columbia, KY.

That answers the question, "Who besides ACHS, Northwestern Leigh PA, in has won a BOA Regional among Class A Bands (the smallest division)?" has been answered by the research of Kenny Akin, who wrote:
